Old camera, new camera

Earlier I showed a pic of my new camera (Nikon D50). I realized I haven't ever shown my old camera (Konica/Minolta G400), so here it is:

I've had this camera for a while, and I still really like it. It has above average manual controls, fast focusing, very low shutter speed, and generally takes good pictures. Pretty nice for an ultra-compact (there are smaller cameras now, but for its time, this was one of the smallest).

That said, the D50 is better in pretty much every way. It might not really be a very fair comparison -- since it's a digital SLR, it's in basically a whole different league -- but it's true nonetheless. There is one area where the G400 still shines, though. Perhaps this picture will illustrate:

In case it's not blindingly obvious, the G400 is a lot smaller than the D50. In fact, it fits comfortably in my pocket, even inside the handy protective carrying case (which holds the 2nd battery, very handy). The D50 can't even come close to this level of convenience, for all its good qualities. So when people ask me what I'm going to do with my G400, the answer is simple: I will keep it, and have both cameras for different occasions. (I think Derrick Story would approve!)

PS: In case you're wondering, yes, I did use a 3rd camera to take the picture of the above two. Yes, we do have 3 digital cameras sitting around. There's a 4th in the household, too, though it happens to be on vacation in Texas right now.
