Thursday
It's true, the firewall at work now blocks all access to LiveJournal, due to mature content. Hmm. Most of the LiveJournal sites I visit are on the immature side--ha ha ha. It will cut into my blogging, which is disappointing, but livable, but worse, it will cut into my blog reading. That kinda pisses me off, but they are paying me to work there. It's not that I spent a lot of time on there, but I did go there regularly to stay caught up with friends and fambly. Oh well.
My boss has been out of town all week, so I have had it easy at work. Of course, when he returns, all h*** will break loose. I found out on Tuesday that Bonnie will take early retirement on April 30--a year and a half sooner than anticpated. That is bound to impact my job description in the short and long term, but I'm okay with it. I just wish I could have worked a whole year with her still around, to experience every weird thing on the calendar and learn the secret rituals of getting the job done.
And the biggest news is...
WE HAVE A CAT!!! The Wednesday before last, when Alex's friends were over for dinner, there was a conversation about pets, and our lack of one. I pointed out that I had two obstacles to getting a cat: 1) The cat would inevitably claw up the new leather sofa and 2) I'm afraid the cat would get out and get hit by a car on Neal Road, which is one house away from mine. Alex reminded me of Robin's point that if we got a cat from the pound, it would already be sentenced/doomed, and we would at least have extended its time, and it could already be declawed. And I figured if we got an older female, there would be less inclination to roam.
So, on Saturday, Alex got on the HHumane Society's website, and found us 2 prospects. We drove down there, and found that one had already been spoken for, but right there in the lobby was the other, and the one that I secretly preferred. Barley is a 9 year old brown tabby female, some idiot removed ALL her claws, and she had been there since December. People would walk in the door there and go straight to the 2 cages of adorable kittens, and Barley was out there because she freaked in the back with the other dogs and cats. Wouldn't we all. So they said we couldn't have her unless we promised never to let her outside and to make her an only cat. Well, duh. Perfect. She's a little hefty, seems she's been living large in her cage. Very soft, very very affectionate. Has purred since we brought her home. She's already out and about the house--almost no transition time. We are very very happy with this cat, and she's appears pleased with us, or at least the food we are providing and the lack of other animals.
