Here are some highlights from our June road trip to Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. Leaving Montana, we ran into traffic on the road:
Our first stop was Park City, Utah. We took a balloon ride the next morning.
We got to an elevation of over 13,000 feet above sea level.
Park City view:
As we were landing, we drifted over a pasture full of horses. They ignored us at first, then decided we were pretty interesting, so they came running.
We landed in a vacant field next to the horse pasture, and the horses continued to be mesmerized.
When the balloon lands, you deflate it by pulling on a string that is connected to the smiley face. The smiley face (and hence the whole contraption) is held together by velcro, which the pilot doesn't tell you until after you land.
We headed to Bear Lake next. Bear Lake is half in Utah and half in Idaho. We go there every year to spend a couple days and have raspberry shakes at the local fast food shack. They grow raspberries around Bear Lake, and the shakes are the best I've ever had.
Bear Lake from the eastern shore:
Some friends from Kentucky were vacationing in Jackson Hole while we were in Bear Lake. We drove the three hours north from Bear Lake to Jackson to spend some time with them. They had a trail ride lined up at a ranch just south of Jackson, so we joined them on the ride.
Here's me in front, on an Appy mare named Apples. She was a great little horse to ride, very, very trail savvy. My husband Clint is right behind me in the red jacket.
After we left Jackson Hole, we headed back to Utah to catch the "Stadium Of Fire" Fourth of July show in Provo, Utah on July 1st. We went there to see Taylor Hicks perform in his first big gig since winning American Idol. We are "Soul Patrollers" through and through...my next posting will be the story of how the show went.
