1) I befriended you, because I recognized you were different from everyone else and odd and ecclectic, like me, so I wanted to surround myself with interesting people who wouldn't be like everybody else, and I thought you'd be a perfect person for my inner circle. And so you have proved yourself to be just that over the years. Never a dull moment with you. Also, I knew that you understood and could commisserate on the subject of having no life due to an overbearing, overprotective, seemingly devious parent. We both disliked our moms. And so I felt for you. We just seemed to be kindred spirits from the get-go. And who knows, had you been a boy I might've dated or married you, even. But don't let that thought freak you out, because it doesn't mean that I'm into you; I just think you have a really great personality that attracted me to you.
2) Obviously, Bill & Ted, as you are the Bill to my Ted and we were especially so in Mr. Haynes' class. I also associate you with The Sounds & The Donnas, Billy Idol (Dancing With Myself), & songs like The Safety Dance and (I Would Walk) 500 Miles by the Proclaimers. Anything that is good to sing along to and shout out the lyrics of reminds me of you, because that's exactly what we did in the halls, during class, etc. Oh and "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd. I remember singing that with you on the way to class from the gym in the mornings in the hallways, especially the yellow and blue ones.
3) You have REALLY nice hair and are extremely artistically inclined, though you never seem to be able to take a compliment about it. I think you really could draw if you wanted to. And you're much, much smarter than you let on. I just don't think you give yourself enough credit for your talents and abilities, maybe because no one encouraged you enough when you were younger. Environments like that can kill self esteem.
4) Okay, you're really going to hate this, but my very, very first memory of you was in P.E. in 7th grade. I was best friends with the red-headed preacher's kid, Amy Hook. But all three of us were in P.E. together. Your mother was again holding the leash really tight on you and you were in that area behind the school, past the blacktop and the bridge, but before the volleyball courts, and you were hiding behind this tree crying. Me and Amy came over there and tried to cheer you up. At the time, I must admit that it was more Amy than me, and I was just following, because I didn't have a lot of friends and felt awkward in social situations with people I didn't know, so I stuck to her like clingwrap. Anyway, you were upset because your mother wasn't letting you hang out with other kids or spend the night and you felt different, left out, and alone, and angry because it was beyond your control and because you didn't think she got how much it socially crippled you and inhibited you from making friends. I told you that my mom was the same way and that I was sorry. I think I tried to pull a bit of a Dr. Phil, asking you questions about the situation and trying to come up with some solutions or ideas about ways th two of you could try to compromise, to where she'd feel you were safe and you wouldn't feel like she was smothering you or a step away from locking you in the attic. Sound familiar?
My second earliest memory of you was before school, in the gym (again) and we were all sitting in the floor. (This was the gym at the junior high, I think. You, me, Brooke, and some other people would sit together and talk. You were making bracelets, writing a novel you would let us read, (I would critique and edit it, sometimes maybe a bit too harshly) and still upset, complaining about your mom not letting you do stuff. And we'd just talk there and on the way to our lockers, past Mr. Stovall's & Mrs. Brown's rooms under that little awning thing. You guys weren't my main group of friends yet. I was hanging out with the kids a year ahead of us, from choir class, and then their extended friends. (Melissa Webster, Hilary Daly, April Yen, Vince Martin, Jonathan Causey, Chris Colley, Jessie Priest, & Tamara Campbell) Other people would come in and out of our group occasionally, but that was the just of it.
My best and clearest memories of you, however, are of our high school years, at our lockers, in the gym, in Mr. Haynes' class, in computer class with the dreaded perv Coach Snider, etc. Those were good times and I'll never forget them.
5) Like I said before, BILL AND TEEEEED! And then Invader Zim. And, in general, any pairing of knuckle-headed friends who get together, have good times, and laugh a lot for no particular reason remind me of you and me.
6) Well, there's not a lot I don't know, so I'll pull out someyhin random. Do you really hate being in Alabama and miss the north as much as you used to?
7) My favorite user pic of yours is the Love Is Never Wrong one with the rainbow and the heart. I like the colors and the message.
