What are your thoughts in general on the movie you chose? So I just rewatched this and it really holds up. I was "eh" about it when it first came out but my brother was very enthusiastic, so I watched it and yes, it is a cut above the usual boring posturing and mega-long battles. It's smart, funny, quirky, ironic, has a nice mix of characters, and a fantastic backstory which I was previously unfamiliar with.
Have you seen this movie before? If so, did you enjoy a repeated viewing? Yes, seen it several times and this last rewatch really held up.
If not, what did you think? Did you have expectations going into it? My only expectations were to relax and enjoy a low stress, amusing action tale. So it worked for me!
Which characters did you like the most? The least?I like all the characters, especially his sidekicks, though the bad guy was annoying at times, too flat. Also, it's nice to have some father-daughter angst for a change, instead of all the father-son stuff that usually happens on TV and movies. Evangeline Lilly is quite
( ... )
But, with the Marvel franchise, I've gotten super tired of the genre. It's just too much, too noisy, and too predictable. I was never a comic book reader so I don't really have these stories as part of my past, and I find the tropes get tedious.
I kind of feel like this. I haven't even seen the last few because it's just... not as fun as it used to be. Maybe it would be different if I'd read all the comics and could identify more with the stories (or even have something to rant about each time they change a thing like I did with the HP movies).
Haven't seen Wonder Woman yet, but I really want to.
I think you would like Wonder Woman, it's got some great "previous era" elements, some awesome heroines, and good humor. A bit prolonged in the ol' final battles, as always, but it moves right along and doesn't really bog down. Let us know what you think!

Same. The rate at which they're churning them out right now is just ridiculous. I like a few but for every one I really enjoy there's about 5 I couldn't care less about. And the problem is only getting worse. I enjoy the really character-centric stories and Marvel is moving toward really big action packed I don't even know whats.
I do too, given the actors and the director. I'm expecting good action but also deep humanism, which is what I've been missing in the genre. I feel like the franchise is substituting angsty backstory for humanism and it's not the same thing...

Me neither, but once Marvel had its proverbial hooks in me, I started to get some comic-related infos from the web (as Steven Rogers points out in "The Winter Soldier", it's quite helpful!). Only problem for me are the different universes within the comic books - I sometimes get a bit confused, I admit.

Ant Man is a movie I'd forgotten about although I really enjoyed it at the time. The characters were great and the action scenes a lot of fun.
I do hear you though, how the number of movies is slowly choking life from the genre, especially when the plots are too thin and the villains two-dimensional.

I wish I could do this, but it's got to have a plot that doesn't make me go WTF. I do recall Ant Man having a decent plot.

I do have high hopes for Black Panther though.
