What are your thoughts in general on the movie you chose? I loved it a whole lot. I went into it expecting to love it since it starred my favorite superhero, Thor, and featured my favorite actress, Cate Blanchett. But I did not expect to love it as much as I did.
Have you seen this movie before? If so, did you enjoy a repeated viewing? I have now seen it twice in the theater.
If not, what did you think? Did you have expectations going into it?
Which characters did you like the most? The least? Most: Hela. I love her. Such a great villain. She's everything I want a villain to be. She's evil and loves what she does. She's badass and powerful and doesn't hide it. She's thoroughly horrible, and that's what makes her a great villain. Also, I like that Thor can't even come close to her power and has to go with a backup plan. Least favorite? The Grandmaster. I like the actor okay, but the character was just annoying to me. And not even in an interesting way. Every time he was on screen I couldn't wait for him to be off.
Which scene was your ( ... )

Thor: Ragnarok is another one that I'll probably watch eventually when it hits Netflix. It's not something I'm super pumped to watch but much like Guardians will to see what it's all about. It's funny because I generally like Taika Waititi but his style is not what I'm looking for in a superhero movie. I'm much to opposite of your tastes. I like dark.

And yet Marvel has clearly done a better job with the movies...

No kidding. I find the DC movies so damn dark. There's like no levity at all. The filming, the dialogue, the plot....just DARK. Marvel's done a ton better putting color into its movies (except really X-Men IMO).

I guess I missed the boat because I had no idea Cate Blanchett was in this film! Thanks for the heads-up, I guess I'll check that out now. I do remember some funny stuff Taika said about...what was it, if you go out with Thor you know what he wants but he's not gonna get it? Well I can't remember but it made it sound like the movie might be funny, which is appealing. I like funny.

They don't work for me when they are pointlessly dark without any hope or characters I can root for.

Agreed. I always feel like there's no point in watching a movie if there's no hope, if you don't leave the cinema feeling like it's going to be okay (even if it'll be a long and difficult way to get there). If a movie has a bleak and hopeless ending or message, there needs to be a good reason for it. Part of the reason to watch a superhero movie is to have fun, and where's the fun in a movie that's one bad thing happening after another?

Marvel hands down. Which is strange because I've always been more of a fan of DC's characters. And yet Marvel has clearly done a better job with the movies, and their movies have made me fall in love with their characters.

Totally agree with you here. Whoever is responsible for the DC movies, can't seem to find a balance for them. They are, as you stated, too dark, or the characters are just some bad mix of something unrecognizable. And they do it for so many years, since they let Joel Schumacher do two films in the mid-1990's (though I still have a soft spot for them). And like you, I pretty much love all the main characters in the MCU, as well as the X-Men.

Unrecognizable is right. What they did to Superman is unforgivable. He's my favorite superhero, and they botched him so badly. What is so hard to make work about a character who has massive powers but who is stopped by his own morals? What is so hard to write about a superhero who is just a small town boy at heart, Clark Kent, who wears a mask to fight crime and protect the city and people and world he loves? And yet they can't seem to get it right. Say what you will about the plotting of Lois and Clark the tv show, but I think that was the best depiction of the character.

I had hoped to see Thor: Ragnorak in the theater but work-related timings made that impossible :( I'm hoping to see it once it is out on Bluray/DVD.

Cate Blanchett is a great actor and she looks good in the trailers. I do like the humor in all the MCU movels - and liked what I saw in the trailer for this movie.

Hela was AMAZINGLY terrifying. And, yes - I love Jeff.. but the Grandmaster stuff stopped being funny about 5 minutes in.

I have yet to see Thor: Ragarok. But everything I see about it looks like it would be a lot of fun! I've seen bits of interviews with the director, and he seems to be absolutely hilarious. And I can tell that Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo had fun with it too in interviews.
