- Do you typically enjoy films that are based off of books or do you avoid them? It all depends on the genre of the book, and or who wrote the book as well. And sometimes it depends on the content of the book as well. - Would you rather read the book or watch the movie first? Read the book first for sure! I like to get know the characters and imagine what the descriptions of the books before I see how it is turned into a movie based on someone's point of view. - What are some example(s) of films or movies based on books that got it right? Some of the Harry Potter movies, but not all of them. - What are some example(s) of films or movies based on books that got it wrong? The Twilight series all the way. They chose awful actors for the characters. I didn't imagine Bella looking like a goth chick. It was creepy. - If you see a film based on a book does it make you want to go and read the book? Yes, actually because I want to see how the author describes things in the book.
I feel the opposite about Twilight. I think the book characters (especially Bella) were quite dull and not well developed, and I think Kristen Stewart's portrayal of Bella did justice to the character considering. I don't necessarily agree with the movie adaption being bad when the original source wasn't that great itself; you work with what you've got.
I'm with you with the Twilight films. Their cast left a lot to be desired, even for someone who liked the books and eventually stopped liking them like I did. I cannot stand Kristen Stewart and I have never understood how she got the role. Bella isn't the deepest character in existence and I don't like her a whole lot now, but I can't think of a single one that deserves Stewart playing them.
Anna Kendrick wasn't bad and Robert Pattinson is actually a decent actor in other things I've seen him in, but I can't think of a single other actor or actress who played a major role that I actually like. Lee Pace and Christopher Heyerdahl have been good in other things, but they were so minor that they didn't make a huge impact in any of the Twilight films.
The Twilight series all the way I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. Not only was the acting terrible, I really felt the adaptation suffered the loss of Bella's internal voice. I know it's hard to really convey on screen the intimacy you get with a character in first person but in this respect, the movies failed,, failed and failed again to get Bella's personality across to the viewer. The acting was crap all around but Kristen Stewart wasn't even trying, just standing around with her voice monotone, her mouth hanging open and her eyes completely empty. Ugh!
