What was the last book you read?
I re-read a couple of my favorites, Mairelon the Magician and its sequel, The Magician's Ward by Patricia C. Wrede. They take place during the Regency era in an alternate universe where wizards are known.

Do you still own any books from your childhood?
Tons! I am a hoarder, and I still enjoy YA fiction, so why get rid of it when I can re-read it!

Have you seen any recent movies that were books?
The last book my students read before the school year finished was A Wrinkle in Time, and, man, was that movie AWFUL! Even Alfre Woodard couldn't save it! I think the most challenging part of making it would've been casting a young actor to play 5-year-old genius Charles Wallace, and I think they actually did okay on that behalf. And Aunt Beast looked like a Wookie. XD

Hmm, your last read books sound right up my alley!

They are really fun, some of my favorite books overall. The only caveat I have is that the main character is supposed to be from the London stews, so the author writes in dialect whenever she speaks, and it can be a little overwrought. It never particularly bothered me, but when I recommended them to a friend of mine, she couldn't get through the first book because it annoyed her so much!

Oh wow... I don't think I knew A Wrinkle In Time had been turned into a movie. This is not okay.

Wrede's books are awesome. And yes, the Wrinkle in Time tv movie was horrifying.

She needs to write faster! I have run out of her books to read! XD I started my sister off with her Lyra books a few months ago, and she worked through the rest of her novels within about a week's time.

Oh, was it a TV movie? That's probably why none of us had ever heard of it!

Oh man, I remember reading A Wrinkle in Time when I was young and I was not about it! I remember hating it so much. I don't think I was prepared for time travel back then.

The language is not very forgiving, either! I'm sure a couple of our students had absolutely no idea what was happening.

Yeah! That was it too. I couldn't follow it and it was a little hard to read. I don't remember when I read it, but it might have been around 5th grade. It would be interesting to go back and read it now...though I might still be biased!
