I found this cool list -- The Soulsister 'Must Read Before 60' List -- and got at least one of the above suggestions from there!

Id like to reread Frankenstein. Its been a while.

Oh! Mr. Rogers! I have to look that one up. I have a soft spot in my heart for him.

I know, who knew about the Mr. Rogers one. And I never did read Frankenstein; I feel I should.

I don't get the hype around The Hate U Give... It was okay but I didn't find it spectacular

Actually I agree with you. I didn't read the book, but I did watch the movie, and while it was well done and the acting was excellent, I didn't feel that the storyline advanced the thinking on a very well-covered issue. I guess the value was to validate the experience at a personal level, and maybe to educate other young people about the realities?

Maybe. Though I have weird thing about "Popular" books. I don't know if it's a subconscious thing or what but I usually end up not liking them. For example, I read The Fault in our stars and was like, seriously? What's the hype? This book is awful.

Far Away by Lisa Graff sounds interesting! And the cover looks gorgeous. *g*

I know! That one I found totally by chance (looking for a blue cover lol) and it's the most intriguing to me!

Ohhhh, that Soulsister list has "Fatherland" by Robert Harris. That was a damn good book. If you're into alternate history, it's a "what if" the Nazis had won. I won't give out the big reveal at the end, but it was pretty realistic in its rewrite of history. It's ultimately a mystery, kinda on the order of any other thriller book. I should go back and reread it. It's been years.

I wonder if that's anything like The Man in the High Castle which has the same theme--I didn't read that book or watch the show, but my brother and sister in law were extras in this season of the show!

Frankenstein is on my 'to read list' for when I finally have a lot more free time.

There was a recent TV show starring Sean Bean that was a re-imaging of Mary Shelley's novel, called The Frankenstein Chronicles. It was pretty good!

You just reminded me that I did see the movie of the stage show of Frankenstein with Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch. I do like both actors; it's the one where they switch off roles depending on the night, and when you go see the movie you don't know which version it'll be. Ours was Jonny as Dr. Frankenstein and Benedict as the monster. I couldn't help think that it would have been better the other way around.
