We're having some people over for dinner this weekend that DH thinks I'll enjoy meeting. I don't doubt him, but I'd be more sure about it if I could have gin and tonics.
I'll exercise my right to buy cool things wholesale, and get some morels for the risotto and black trumpets for crostini appetizers. Last weekend at a belated anniversary dinner I had fettucini with porcinis and favas, and the two were remarkable together. Fava beans have hit a season low price, so maybe I'll copycat those too. Fava bean doubter? I like limas now, but even fresh ones have a flavor that I remember being yucky. Favas don't have that. They're...creamy. Labor-intensive, you have to peel as well as shell, but that makes them delicate eating.
The boss is excited about scoring some ramps, but unless you find them on your walk in the woods, they seem like a gimmick. No ramps for us. But the chives in the garden are blooming. For a lesser onion kick but some lavender intrigue I could use chive blossoms instead.
Monday holidays have never meant so much as during teaching. Monday off means Sunday off. And one less lecture altogether. Ahh...
