Some positive arguments for AV

I've been hearing a lot of pretty stupid arguments recently on electoral reform. They have largely been based on very marginal, technical cases and negative arguments rather than positive reasons to support one of the two systems on offer. In my view there are strong positive reasons to vote for AV.

Just to check, there's no such thing as purdah for referendums is there? (not that this is public or anything)

It is public, actually :o)

As far as I know this is not a party political issue per se. MPs from all parties are supporting both sides. So I don't think civ service considerations apply here. But in any case, I think the only reason purdah was quite so purdah-ish last time is because there was the possibility of a change of Government (which did in fact materialise) so no department wanted the potential embarrassment of its people saying anything party political.

So in short, I think you're ok to contribute, should you wish to.

In short: I voted Lib Dem in hopes of getting voting reform so I'm buggered if I'm going to vote against it now.

Might write more on this next week.
