Cruxshadows (stranded in Wichita)

Oct 14, 2004 04:48

The Cruxshadows played here in town today. I probably should've posted about it earlier, especially considering I DJ'd at it... so I apologize to anyway who would've been able to attend who may not have been aware of the show.

Although the turnout was kind-of small, the band themselves put on a great performance (as they always do). And in general everything seemed to be in good spirits. After the show, however, the band was unable to start their van. Myself and a few of the other stragglers decided to stay behind and help them fix their vehicle. This despite the fact that the great majority of us (myself included) clearly had little-to-no knowledge of auto-repair. Fortunately, one of us (my good friend Marcus) does happen to have a respectable amount of knowledge on the subject. After tinkering with it for about an hour or so he was able to make it start.

Sadly this would be a very short lived solution.... The band manages to make it about a mile down the road, and then their van breaks down again. Marcus and myself both see this happen and pull over to help them once more (as did the owner of the venue they played at). The venue owner woman (don't know her name) then escorted the girls in the band back to their hotel rooms while all the guys in the band stayed behind to work on the car. To be entirely honest, however, Marcus did about 95% of the work, Rouge about 5%, and the rest of us just sat in the tall grass freezing our assess off.

This continues on for about 3 hours before we decide to give up and just call a tow trunk. The tow trunk guy shows up, but refuses to tow the van. His reasoning is that the van is to big for his truck to tow, but we all agreed after-wards that he probably just thought we were all freaks and refused to help us. (This is the second time in my life that a tow truck guy has refused to help me).

After a flat out rejection from the tow truck people, we then decide to have Marcus's hearse push their van the remaining 3 miles back to their hotel room. This final task was actually accomplished surprisingly easily.

After then helping them unload their equipment safely into their hotel rooms (and waking the girls up :)) we say our good-byes and go home. They are still here in town though, and their van is still broken. They do have an off day tomorrow so hopefully they'll be able to find an honest mechanic that'll be able to fix it in less then a day.
