Alright, soooooo... I finally got to see Deathly Hallows Part 2 (here on out, DH-2) last night. Yesterday was my sisters birthday and she and I have seen every HP movie together (in the theaters) with the exception of the first and DH-1 (because of MAJOR scheduling conflicts), so we went for her birthday. I have thoughts...
Overall, I was actually really happy with the movie. There were parts I was really not happy about and parts that I was over the moon! about. But, for the most part, they evened out and it was just a great movie.
Things I Liked
- BAMF!McGonagall - Okay, I knew she was badass from the books, but damn. Just... damn. I want to be her when I get older.
- Listen-To-Me-Right-Now-Harry-Potter!Luna - Honestly, it didn't seem very Luna-ish from the books, but damn if I wasn't impressed with her after that. Even my sister, who is not a Luna fan, was praising her name after that. So, go Luna!
- Neville Fucking Longbottom - Thank GOD they left in this Neville from the books. Seriously. He was one of my favorite characters from the beginning and I was so worried that they'd skim over his awesome and just have him, I dunno, kill the snake by accident or something.
- In the forest - When Harry found the resurrection stone inside the snitch and his parents, Sirius and Remus appeared... the creys. Oh my god. When Harry reached out to hold his mom's hand and couldn't... tears. I just... this was done better than I had expected, even if it wasn't quite to book standards (for me, anyway). The emotion was there. I did feel like maybe James got a little snubbed, but I feel I know why they concentrated on Lily more.
Things I (Maybe) Didn't Like
- Harry & Voldemort's showdown - The thing I really liked about their showdown in the book was how Harry kept calling him Tom and that everyone was there just watching and learning everything while Harry explained it to him. They didn't do that. He called him Tom once and then they had this epic showdown with no one else around. And there was no real explanation of how the curse rebounded and killed Voldemort. It was just... if you hadn't read the books (which Becky and I were there with two people who hadn't, but had seen all the movies), it was confusing.
- Snape's memories - They were just... I dunno, confusing, I guess. I wanted more from those. Plus, I didn't think the casting was very good for James Potter as a boy.
- Epilogue - And not because I just don't like the epilogue in general, but because... it just... there was too much missing. I wanted to see it like it was in the book and it just... it wasn't done right. Although, I think they had grown-up!Hermione & Ron down perfectly.
Basically what it comes down to is that I really liked it. I thought about it a lot on my 45-minute drive home at 12:30 last night (LOL) and I know they did things the way they did for a reason. And the only reason I was disappointed with some areas is because I have read the books. In books, you have infinite possibilities, because there's no real... cost involved. With movies, that's quite the opposite. I get that. Do I still think they could have done things differently? Sure. And would I have ever really noticed if I wasn't such a huge fan of the books? Probably not. *shrug* There you have it.
I do want to see it again, though. I want to re-watch DH-1 first, though... and then go see DH-2 again. I think it'll help. :)
In other news... I'm officially panicking in concern of my
paperlegends fic. Not because I don't think I can finish it. But because I don't think I can finish it when my home internet is made of all sorts of FAIL! -_- The #crossbow peeps know what I'm talking about, but my internet has been shit at home for a while. I can't keep connected for more than a few minutes and it takes like another 10 to get reconnected. And when you do all your writing in gdocs, that makes it a bit difficult, you know?
So, today (hopefully - that's the plan, anyway) I'm going to get a new router while I'm out getting groceries. I'm hoping that fixes it, because ours is like... old. Way old. Older than Gracie old. And if that doesn't fix it, then my ass is calling up the internet company and we will have wooooords. *nods*
However... panicking now.
Alright, I should pretend to do some work now. :)
