I'm officially a week away from opening night of my play. Am I worried? Yes. Yes I am. However, I am told that being worried is a good thing from a director's stand point. I don't think I would ever understand that entirely, but who knows. My lighting and sound cues are done. Costumes... kinda. Props, for the most part. The only thing I have left is getting my actors off their script. And this... has become a hell I could not fathom.
Shakespeare is a hard piece of work to memorize. There is no real 'easy' way to learn the lines. I give credit to my actors for being able to come in and work so hard on this. I am so proud of them and this makes me feel good as far as a director is concerned. I am sure they will make it work well. However... if anyone has listened to me the last week... knows how much I want to kill them right now.
Romeo shows up stoned to practice. That is VERY... I mean VERY disrespectful to me and the other members in the cast. This hurt me actually. I honestly think he is lucky that we are a week away from opening night, or I would've dropped him like a sack of potatoes. One of the reasons I was so hurt by this, is because he showed me so much promise. He is talented, knows most of his lines (save a few monologues) and works hard in developing the character. Either way, it made me feel as though I was a useless director. Oh well... Chin up, we keep working.
I've been getting eye strain headaches lately... which sucks because that means my eyes are getting worse now and these glasses are not helping me anymore. I know I have been spending a lot of time on my computer and playing WoW and the like, but my glasses are supposed to help with that. Who knows. $11o to see my Optometrist... and I'm still unemployed. Argh. Besides those things I mentioned, everything is pretty good. Still looking for work. Semester's almost over. Time to relax is coming soon. Oh goodness... Stir Crazy... it will happen.
