Desert Island Books!

If you had to pick just 10 books to take with you to the future to represent the whole of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, which 10 books would you take? If you want to, write why you'd pick them. If you just can't choose 10, it's okay if you give up half way through and say that you have no idea how to make the decision.

The point is, 10 books that you think are the ultimate in Sci-Fi and Fantasy novels. If we get alot of people in agreement it's possible that the budget may well stretch to buying one or two for the library...

So, for the purposes of amusement, these are my Ten Sci-Fi and Fantasy books...

01. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (A Trilogy in Five Parts)- Douglas Adams
02. Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card (I wish someone had told me to read this when I was 14 and having teenage trauma.)
03. Good Omens - Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman (Any Pratchett or Gaiman woud be good, but I can't name just one each.)
04. Fuzzy Dice - Paul DiFilippo (No one's ever heard of this, but I think anyone who's got an interest in how the world works will love this book.)
05. Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
06. Making History - Stephen Fry (Is so a SciFi book. It's got time-travel. And it says it is on the cover!)
07. Knights of Madness - Peter Haining (Technically a collection of short stories, but all of them are SciFi and Fantasy, so it counts.)
08. The Weirdstone of Brisingamen - Alan Garner
09. The Portable Door - Tom Holt
10. The Box of Delights - John Masefield (May well be a children's book, but it's still awesome.)

It took me ages to choose all of these, hope your selection process comes easier. Good Luck everyone, and remember - if we get a lot of repeats, we may end up buying them for the library, so make your choices!

P.S. If the post length bothers people I'll put this under cut, but I wanted to get people started, so I'm not cutting it right away because I think more of you will respond if you can see my choices and have 'views' about them!
