2010 Predictions

Jan 01, 2011 14:26

This year I attended a talk by Jesse Schell where he talked about a great many things, but one idea that stuck with me was that the act of predicting is a skill that can be improved with practice. This thought has inspired me to make my own set of predictions. So here are my predictions for each of the next 5 years, and then one more for 10 years out.

In 2011
  • A 3D movie will shock and amaze audiences by projecting 3D content outside of the standard movie frame making it seem like the "most 3D experience ever" (as quoted by a movie critic).
  • Giant Cardboard Robots will begin mass producing the suits and there will be a substantial showing of uniquely decorated Giant Cardboard Robots at Burning Man.
  • The Kinnect for xbox will be widely mocked as an interface for video games.
  • Julian Assange will be found not guilty of rape, but governments and the general public will have lost interest in the leaked cables associated with the wikileaks scandal.

In 2012
  • 3D movies will be abandoned as the fad that they were.
  • A food item that was once deemed to be good for us turns out to be a potential health risk.
  • The Kinnect for xbox will find its niche and have a handful of games that are fun for the family.
  • Obama will narrowly be re-elected into office for his second term.

In 2013
  • Cloud computing will become the standard, and very few applications or documents will remain on people's hard drives.
  • A sequel to the movie Inception will be in theaters where it is revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio's character is in fact still asleep, and the movie's plot revolves around extracting him from his dream state. The sequel will be met with the same luke-warm acceptance as the first matrix sequel
  • Outlawing gay marriage will be declared unconstitutional by the supreme court.

In 2014
  • Cars that use a non-gas based primary fuel source will now account for 1/3rd the cars on the roads in the U.S.
  • The world-wide economy will start to finally auto-correct due to new norms being accepted and various sectors of the world wide economy will once again start to see healthy growth.

In 2015
  • Dynamic-haptic interfaces will be available in cell phones.
  • A new generation of gaming consoles will have already hit the market from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

In 2020
  • Smart phones (iPhones, Androids, etc.) will be made obsolete by some new technological innovation that revolutionizes how people keep in touch with each other.
