Challenge #02

For this challenge, we will be doing a drabble tree!  Some of you may remember doing this a few phases back and the original idea for this came from skieswideopen.  To create a drabble tree, you will be responding to other people's drabbles with your own using a single line from that drabble.  More than one person can respond to any given drabble ( Read more... )

"You need to relax more."

Derek gave him the side eye.

"Don't look at me like that. You're tense as hell. You seriously need to relax, dude."

Derek's eyebrows joined the overall disapproving frown he had going on and Stiles rolled his eyes.

"Fine, stay tense, stress yourself out even more. Have a heart attack when you're forty."

Derek growled.

"And while we're at it, you also need to work on your communication skills. Grunts and growls and murder eyebrows are fine occasionally, but you're seriously overdoing it, Der."

Derek clenched his hands into fists. "Stiles, shut up."

Stiles let out a long sigh, but did indeed shut up. He looked around the dank little cell they were being held in, chained to the bare wall with uncomfortably wide shackles. Silence really wasn't making the situation any more bearable, he decided. And Derek, he noticed, didn't look more relaxed either.

After what felt like an hour but was probably no more than a minute, Stiles couldn't take it any more. "Are you feeling better now?"

"I'm trying to listen to these hunters upstairs and work out a plan to escape, so maybe you could shut up so I can get both of us out of here," Derek said, punctuating his words with a mean sounding growl.

Stiles would have been intimidated, really, except he was chained up in some hunter's rental home basement and he had to pee. "No. It's not gonna matter if you can hear the hunters because you can't get out of these shakles. Besides, it's a moot point anyway."

"Oh yeah. So you want to spent he rest of your life chained up here?"

"No." Stiles scoffed. "But unlike some people I could mention, I planned ahead."

Derek raised an eyebrow.

"I sent Scott a text message when you decided to follow that hunter." Stiles grinned. "They might have taken my phone, but they didn't turn it off. And I enabled the gps before we got caught. So I figure an hour, maybe, until Scott can tear himself away from his girlfriend to read the text, ten minutes until the gang's all assembled, another ten minutes before someone remembers that we have the 'gps on in an emergency' rule, and maybe half an hour until they get here. So really, we should be getting rescued in about--"

A loud crash sounded from upstairs.

"--about thirty seconds." Stiles gave an impressed hum. "Well done, Scotty."

Next to him, Derek just sighed.

Eureka, Jack/Nathan, and Zoe

A loud crash sounded from upstairs.

"Dad?"

"It's okay, Zoe," she heard from upstairs. "Everything's good."

Normally she would have sighed and left it like that but her dad sounded... squirrelly... so Zoe put down the mug of coffee she wasn't supposed to be drinking.

"SARAH? Is everything okay with my dad?"

No Answer.

"SARAH?"

"Sheriff Carter has ordered me to tell you all is fine."

Zoe rolled her eyes because that meant it wasn't fine and this was SARAH's way of letting her know without actually disobeying her dad's order.

"Traitor," Zoe heard from the stairs and looked up to see her dad on his way down looking frazzled with his hair all mussed.

"Dad?"

"Shouldn't you be at school?"

Definitely squirrelly, she thought.

"Shouldn't you be at work?" she countered. "What's going on, Dad?"

"Is that coffee I smell?"

"Oh no you don't. No changing the subject. What's going on, Dad?" she insisted and saw his eyes dart back towards the stairs, and that was when it clicked.

Zoe had spent last night at Pilar's house, supposedly studying for an important test but instead binge watching the latest season of 'The Dating Game'.

"Did you have a sleepover, Dad?" The way his eyes widened like a deer caught in the headlights of oncoming traffic gave her the answer. "Way to go, Dad!" she exclaimed as it was about time he started dating again; her mom had moved on years ago.

Her thoughts immediately jumped to Allison, except Zoe knew Allison was out of time visiting her parents with Kevin. Tess and Callie were no longer in Eureka and Jo was dating Zane. She hadn't heard her dad mention anyone else except in reference to a crime or incident except for... No. It couldn't be.

"Dad?" she asked quiet but firmly. "Who's upstairs?"

"Me," came a deep voice from the direction of the stairs.

"Aw, crap!" her dad exclaimed softly as Nathan Stark sauntered down the stairs and into the kitchen.

"SARAH, coffee please, for everyone."

So that was how Zoe learned of the new man in her dad's life, who would eventually be a very cool step-father.

Stiles impatiently drummed his fingers on the counter, mentally willing the diner's ancient coffee maker to work faster.

It didn't.

Stiles grabbed a straw and started to tear apart the little wrapper, making a neat pile of confetti on the counter. He was just about to start stockpiling his pockets with little packets of sugar when he heard his dad's voice.

"Thanks, that looks delicious."

Stiles frowned. Delicious? He had personally packed his dad's lunch for the day: kale and chickpea salad with turkey breast and a whole wheat roll.

He moved to the end of the counter and peered around into the near private booth tucked into the corner of the diner. His dad held a burger the size of his head in his hands.

"Don't you dare!"

Starteled, his dad dropped his burger onto his plate and looked up. "Shouldn't you be at school?"

"Shouldn't you be eating your non-heart-attack-causing lunch?"

Their silent staring match was interrupted by Gina, the diner's owner, who plopped a large cup of coffee down next to Stiles.

"I thought we talked about this, Gina. My dad isn't allowed grease and fat for lunch."

"Stiles, honey, I run a business, and you dad pays me cash for his food. So until you can outpay him, he gets his burger like any paying customer."

Stiles glared at her for a moment, then grabbed his coffee. "Enjoy your heart attack on a plate, Dad. Just know this means you're getting nothing but vegetables for dinner."

Emma raised the sword in her hand. "Don't you dare!"

"What?" The Evil Queen smirked. "I can dare all manner of things. You cant do a thing to stop me. Your father tried to kill me with a sword and here I stand."

Emma glanced over at Snow. "Mom come stand behind me. We are getting out of here."

Snow got up and moved behind Emma. "Please be careful."

Emma squared her shoulders. "I will."

The Evil Queen raised her hand tio send a bolt of magick towards Emma. "Oh, I wont."

Emma grabbed the sword with both hands and sent a bolt of magick through the blade at the Evil Queen.

"How did you do that!?" The Evil Queen screamed in shock and pain.

"True love is the strongest magick of all." Snow smiled. "Emma was made with it."

Emma grabbed Snow's hand and they ran out the door. They didnt stop running until they were deep in the woods.

Emma smiled. "I think we gave her the slip."

"For now." Snow sighed. "She'll be back and even angrier than before. I'm proud of you. "

Jadzia looked around at the mess in Worf's quarters on the Defiant. Broken glass lay among Worf's clothes and belongings. "Are you feeling better now?"

Worf looked up at her from the floor where he was sitting. "A little."

"Good. You can clean this mess up and then get to your station before Cisko comes looking for you." She started to leave then turned back. "We all had people we cared about on that ship. You're a Klingon you should be happy they died with honor."

Worf's shoulders slumped. "I know they are on their way to Stovalcore but I am angry that we didn't get here in time."

"In time to die or help? Jadzia couldn't help how harsh she sounded.

"To help." Worf got to his feet. "Stovalcore has enough honored dead.

Jadzia nodded. "Just as long as you keep fighting."

"Today is not a good day to die." Worf said softly.
