[Spoiler (click to open)] Soft Thirst

A sudden loud burst of laughter interrupted Erin in the middle of her calculations. She looked over at Holtzmann, sitting at her desk with her feet up and a laptop balanced on her thighs. Her gaze lingered for a second too long before she caught herself.
"Something funny online?" she asked.
Holtzmann typed away, grinning as she clicked the marker and sent whatever she'd been writing.
"Just a game", she replied and closed the laptop. "I'm totally losing. I'll be lucky if I'm still alive by the morning. But enough about me. How's it going with those calculations, Erin?"
"Uhm." She got distracted by Holtzmann's eyes and had to force herself to look away. "Uhm, eh, fine, they're fine."
Holtzmann nodded. "Alright, good. Did Abby say she was gonna get food?"
"Yeah."
"Great, I'm starving." She put the laptop on the table and got up, stretching to the left and right, exposing her midriff when her shirt rode up. Erin couldn't help but notice the abs and quietly wondered when Holtzmann had time to work out. Although she does go to the junkyard a lot, I bet she has to lift a lot of heavy stuff - I wonder if her arms are as-
"Erin?" Holtzmann tilted her head at Erin. "You okay?"
"Oh! Yes, I'm - I'm great, thank you for asking Ji- Holtzmann. I'm gonna go and, uh, out, I need some fresh air." She let out a nervous laugh. "I've been doing math for too long, I'm getting tired. I- yeah, I'm gonna step outside for a minute."
"It's snowing. It's freezing out there."
"I need the cold, I think."
Holtzmann looked confused, but shrugged. "Okay." She grabbed the laptop and walked to the stairs. "I'll be upstairs if you need me."
Erin nodded, chewing at her bottom lip. "Uh-huh, yep, good to know. See you in a bit."
When Holtzmann had disappeared out of sight, Erin let out a sigh and slumped against the wall. She leaned her head back and stared up at the ceiling. I suck at this. If Abby hadn't told me about the flirting I- would probably still have fallen for her. She shook her head. "Yeah, I really need to step outside."

(gayness intensifies) / mutual pining, mutual idiots

When Abby came back with the food - four different kinds of pizza, a milkshake and sodas - she found Erin standing outside in the snow, stomping her feet and blowing air on her hainds. "What are you doing? Help me with this and get back inside."
Erin did as she was told. "I just needed to gather my thoughts for a second."
"In the freezing cold? Yeah, that seems accurate. Not."
"Well, I - uhm."
Abby turned to look at her, intrigued by the hesitation in Erin's voice.
"What? ...Oh, did you finally come around?" She got a giant smile. "Are you in love with Holtzmann?"
Erin frantically motioned at her to be quiet. "Keep your voice down!"
"Why? She's still working on a plan to find the best way to flirt with you, you know."
"She is?"
"You didn't know?"
"I mean - no? I haven't noticed any flirting."
"No, but you didn't before either, so I'm not surprised. Oh my god, just go up there and tell her. Where's Patty, by the way? I got us something to eat."
"She's upstairs with Holtz. She was doing some research in her library."
"DO I SMELL PIZZA?" Holtzmann's voice startled Erin. Abby didn't even flinch; she was used to sudden loud Holtzmann at this point.
"DID YOU GET ONE WITH PINEAPPLE?" Patty shouted.
"YES AND YES", Abby shouted back, and then there was a flurry of motion and feet hurrying over the floor and then Holtzmann and Patty appeared beside them.
"Well, I guess it's time to get something to eat" Erin said and ignored the pointed looks from Abby.

(I HAD TO MAKE THREE COMMENTS omgosh why)

[Spoiler (click to open)] real heckin gay

When they were done eating, and Erin had somehow managed to entirely avoid looking at Holtzmann directly, Abby nudged Patty and nodded her head in a 'let's go' way. Patty raised an eyebrow and Abby grinned at her, which made Patty smile broadly. Holtzmann didn't notice, busy as she was finishing the last of her milkshake while checking her laptop for updates on whatever game she was playing. When she looked up from it, they had already left and Erin was the only one left.
"So-" she started, and then let out a frustrated sigh and decided to not beat around the bush anymore. "Holtzmann."
"Mhmm."
"Holtz!"
She looked up. "Yeah?"
"I think - I like you."
"Aw, I like you too, Erin."
"I mean I think you're brilliant and amazing and you're- you're gorgeous. And I like you."
Erin was pretty sure this was the first time Holtz had been at a loss for words. At least it looked like she was. Her mouth had opened and she looked kinda stunned.
"So you're saying - that we are dating?"
Erin laughed. "If you want to, yes."
"Excellent!"
