Stiles wasn't expecting to run into a warm, solid body as he fumbled through his pitch-black kitchen and yelled before a hand wrapped around his mouth.

"It's me," Derek grumbled. "Scott called, something's going on at the power station."

Derek let him go and Stiles stumbled a step. "Thanks for the warning, creeper!"

"Just hurry up," Derek said impatiently.

"I"m fine, by the way," Stiles griped. "Recovering from the near-heart attack from being jumped by the monster in the dark, thanks."

"You'd know if I jumped you," Derek mumbled.

"What's that?" Stiles asked.

"Nothing."

"That's what I thought. Let's go."

***

Stiles shifted awkwardly, then scowled when Derek hissed behind him.

“Stop moving,” Derek whispered hotly in his ear.

“We’re in a pitch-black closet,” Stiles spit back.

“Shhh.”

Stiles fell silent. He could hear the hunters down the hall in the school searching for them.

Stiles shifted minutely, Derek’s fingers dug into his arm and then he felt-

“Seriously?” Stiles whispered.

“Your dick is-“

Derek clapped a hand over Stiles’ mouth as the hunters outside walked past the closet.

“Just wait,” Derek breathed. “We’ll run as soon as they’re clear.”

Stiles stayed still while considering… things.

***

The sound of the lock clicking in the dead silence triggered Stiles’ first breath hitch.

Derek was busy trying all the doors in the vestibule as he growled and stalked across the floor.

They were trapped and hiding in a dark glass box from a monster. Stiles wheezed in and felt the ground shift. He slumped against the wall and chased spot in his vision.

“Stiles, hey. No, no. Stay with me,” Derek said softly as he knelt in front of Stiles.

“Trapped,” Stiles gasped.

“I’ll get us out,” Derek vowed and looking straight into his eyes, Stiles believed him.

***

“You okay?”

Derek swung through Stiles’ bedroom window, scaring the shit out of him.

“What the hell dude?” Stiles exclaimed, nearly falling out of his chair.

“Power’s out.”

“And?”

Derek flushed even in the dark. “Wanted to make sure…”

A slow smile spread over Stiles’ lips. “That I was safe?”

Derek glared at him. “Pack courtesy.”

“Yeah?” Stiles stood up and crowded into Derek’s space. “Who else have you gone to see?”

Derek avoided his gaze. “You’re the first.”

Stiles nodded and cupped Derek’s cheek. “I’m the only, right?”

Derek met Stiles’ eyes, then leaned in slowly and kissed him.

***

Stiles waited in Derek’s bedroom, plucking anxiously at the blanket. He could hear the Toyota pull in the driveway of the renovated Hale house and breathed out shakily. No turning back now.

Derek was quick to get inside and up the stairs, obviously noticing the power was out and how quiet it was.

When he entered the bedroom he stopped quick and looked around at all the red flameless candles Stiles setup.

“Stiles?” Derek asked, confused. “The power?”

“I killed the breaker. Thought this fit.”

“What’s that?”

“This.” Stiles gestured. “I want to be here every night.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Always.”
