“Rub the butter into the flour till it resembles breadcrumbs, sounds simple enough.”
Draco weighed out the flour and butter and attempted to rub the two together. “Excellent, now I have flour down my robes. Does that look like breadcrumbs?” He assessed the mess in the bowl. “It’ll do.”
“Add just enough water to bring the dough together… huh? How in the name of Merlin’s splendid ears am I supposed to know how much water that is?” Sighing, he tipped some water into the mixture. “All right, form a dough.”
He pushed the dough around a bit till it resembled a rough but rather wet dough.
“Chill for half an hour. Excellent.” He made himself a cuppa and went to read The Daily Prophet.
Half an hour later, he was back in the kitchen.
“Caramelise the apple in the sugar.” Draco peered at the recipe again. “What the fuck does that even mean?”
He tipped the apples into the pan and poured some sugar on top. “Well go on then, caramelise.” He pushed at the apples with a wooden spoon.
Glaring at the offending fruit one last time, Draco pulled out his wand. “Caramelise.”
He ran from the kitchen as red hot apples started pinging off the ceiling.
“What are you doing?” Harry was standing in the hallway looking perplexed. “What is that smell?”
“Um, I was trying to bake an apple pie for dessert tonight…”
“Right.” The bastard was laughing at him. “Draco, I love you, but The Bake Off is just a TV programme, not something you have to do.” Harry went over and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend.
“Shut up, I know that.” Draco made a half-hearted attempt to push Harry away.
“I tell you what, how about I take you to Fleur’s restaurant tonight, and you can have whatever pudding you like?”
“Can I have the one with the chocolate truffles on top?”
“Yes.”
“Can you have the one with the nougat, so I can try some of yours?”
Harry started laughing for real. “Anything you like, so long as it will keep you out of my kitchen.”

[Cooking Candy]
Killua stared around Mito-san's kitchen with a degree of trepidation.
"Is it okay for us to be in here while your aunt is away?" he questioned Gon
Gon smiled, bright and shiny with teeth showing. "Mm! Mito-san won't mind. She's the one who taught me, right here in this kitchen."
Nodding cautiously, Killua asked, "So what's first?"
"Sugar and a small pot. First we have to caramelize it, then we add cream."
As Killua measured out the sugar according to Gon's direction, he couldn't help the tiny smile that began to curl up the corners of his mouth. He'd missed having a steady supply of candy since arriving at Gon's home. There weren't any convenience stores here on Whale Island, in fact there were precious few stores of any sort and he'd found himself growing increasingly grouchy without his daily fix. Finally, he'd become so deprived of sweets that he'd muttered a small complaint to Gon about it that morning.
He'd been taken by surprise when Gon had exclaimed, "Oh! That's easy! We'll just make some," then sat there sending his trademark thousand-watt grin Killua's way. He had then proceeded to natter away about caramels, nougats, truffles, and fudge until Killua was drooling and begging him to stop talking and start making the sugary treats he craved so badly.
"How old were you when you learned to do all this?" Killua asked as they were spooning nougat onto rice paper sheets.
"Hmm...first I learned how to make fudge, I think I must have been around four. After that was truffles and nougat Then Mito-san taught me to bake pies-apple's always been my favorite-I think when I was around six."
"You can bake too?" Killua asked, more than just a little impressed.
He didn't think he'd ever set foot in a kitchen until he'd come to Whale Island. His only experience with cooking had been survival training at Illumi's hands and that had most certainly not included any recipes for dessert. In fact Illumi's cooking could barely qualify as edible, let alone satisfying or delicious. (His aniki was many things but a cook wasn't one of them.)
"Yup! I can bake all sorts of things too, not just pies," Gon replied, stirring cream into the hot sugar bubbling away on the stove.
Suddenly feeling shy for some reason he couldn't name, Killua quietly asked, "Can you teach me?"
Gon turned to him, a look of pleased surprise on his face. "Sure! I'd love to!" And the thousand-watt grin was back, warming Killua to the bottom of his soul. For the first time since they'd entered Mito-san's empty kitchen, Killua relaxed enough to return the smile full force.
"Thanks. I'd really like that."

[hanging on the edge of tomorrow]The first time she sees him again, it’s like a scene out of one of those movies Laurel had made her watch when they were teenagers. He was there and then he was gone. It was as if he had never been.
Sara has to remind herself that he is dead. Death might have been a temporary state for her, but it is far from being the same. It isn’t candy-coated sugar, spice, and everything nice. Leonard Snart is dead. There is no body left and there is no Lazarus Pit to save him like there was to save her. All she has is the ring he wore - and there is no way to regenerate an entire person from a few dead cells on a hunk of metal.
Snart is dead and he is never coming back. Just like Laurel is dead and buried. Just like Moira Queen and Tommy Merlyn.
The team on the Waverider falls apart. Mick has had enough of time travel and getting brainwashed - and Sara can’t blame him. She can see the pain that he buries and refuses to acknowledge and the way he starts to turn to say something to Leonard and catches himself. She can see the way he berates himself because his best friend took his place and died saving them all. It’s clear that Stein misses his wife and Jax misses his mother. Sara is not quite sure about Ray, but she has a feeling he is tired of being dead.
They scatter back to their homes - but Sara finds herself in Central City instead of Star City. She finds herself wishing that Leonard was there with her. It’s stupid and she feels like a teenager again, silently pining over someone she couldn’t have.
The first time she sees him again, it’s like he’s a ghost - there one minute and gone the next.
The second time she sees him, it’s in a bar full of smoke and noise and she decides she’s just seeing things. It is wishful thinking, nothing more.
After the third time, she starts wondering if the Lazarus Pit is getting to her.
He is a ghost, she keeps telling herself. Nothing more, nothing less. Just a figment of her imagination.
That does not stop her from running straight into him the next time she sees - or fails to see - him. There is a flare of recognition in his eyes that, for some strange reason she does not expect. The cold gun is strapped to his leg and he is wearing the jacket he had abandoned the parka for again, and it is really, truly him in the flesh.
She does not know how he managed it and she does not know if she will be able to bring herself to ask - but feeling his arms around her when she surprises him with a hug is enough. She is not certain she could survive losing one more person she loves so close together. The thought gives her pause, but she pushes it away. Right now, he is real and alive and that is enough.
