[John Sheppard]John Sheppard, the USAF colonel best known for his participation in the Stargate program, died on Monday during a mission in the Pegasus Galaxy.
The Air Force refused to divulge the cause of death, citing the classified nature of Colonel Sheppard's visit to that galaxy and the ongoing and varied threats to Earth security. "Colonel John Sheppard served and died honourably, giving his life in defense of the planet he loved," said Air Force spokesperson Lieutenant Jane Blackwell.
Colonel Sheppard was a member of the original Atlantis expedition, rising to the position of military commander when the senior military officer, Colonel Marshall Sumner, died shortly after the expedition's arrival in the Pegasus Galaxy. During his time on Atlantis, Colonel Sheppard was instrumental in establishing several major Earth alliances, including our ongoing relationship with the Athosians.
Colonel Sheppard served on Atlantis for eight years. After his return to Earth, he continued to serve with the Stargate Program, acting in both diplomatic and military capacities in multiple interplanetary missions, including the mission to Malita that gave us the technology that led to the current widespread use of clean energy. Colonel Sheppard using his rare gift for Ancient technology to assist in saving Earth from multiple alien invasions.
Colonel Sheppard is survived by his husband, General Cameron Mitchell, the current head of Homeworld Security, and by his brother, David Sheppard, CEO of Sheppard Industries. "He was my best friend," said General Mitchell of his husband of sixteen years, "and I'll miss him for the rest of my life."

Character: Lillian Strand
Warnings: N/A apart from major character death
Word Count: 300
[Lillian Strand]Lillian Strand, former director of U.S. Cyber Command and one of the founders of the controversial Clockwork program, died at her home in Alexandria on Thursday at the age of ninety.
Ms. Strand, the daughter of former CIA director Leland Strand, got her professional start under her father in the CIA after completing a Bachelor's degree in political science at Georgetown and a Master's in international relations at Yale.
During her time as a CIA analyst, she served in stations, starting with the Soviet Union and finishing with Iraq. In 1995, she was promoted to executive director in the Directorate of Science and Technology.
In 2000, Ms. Strand left the CIA to became the first female director of U.S. Cyber Command, where she considerably expanded the agency's scope, supplementing its traditional computer protection role with an element of direct law enforcement and recruiting multiple agents from agencies such as the FBI to serve as field agents.
Ms. Strand's most notable accomplishment was the successful creation of the Clockwork program, which involved implanting a computer chip into a human brain, thus creating the first cyborg in the form of Special Agent Gabriel Vaughn.
Historians will be debating for generations to come whether or not Clockwork was the cause of the Global Cyber Wars, and whether or not we would have won without the head start that Clockwork gave us. Ms. Strand herself held to the latter view, a position for which she had support from multiple notable figures, including President Obama.
There can be no doubt, however, that the Clockwork program prevented multiple terrorist acts on U.S. soil prior to the start of the Cyber Wars, nor that Lillian Strand irrevocably changed the face of the world.
Ms. Strand was predeceased by her sole daughter. She had no other living family.
