Chapter 2

“Don’t think I’ll just give up on you…”

“Akanishi-sensei?”

Jin blinked several times as his mind went blank and he was no longer able to see what was going on around him.

“AKANISHI-SENSEI?!”

He opened his eyes to see his morning English class staring at him looking very confused. His hands started shaking and sweat was forming on his brow.

“Huh?! What?! Oh--oh--Nishikido-kun--I--what’s wrong?”

“I was trying to ask you a question but you just kinda trailed off,” Ryo answered.

“I did? I’m sorry--I--anyways, what was your question?”

“How do you pronounce this word--“r--r--rea--?” Ryo attempted at pronouncing the English word that was unfamiliar to him.

“‘Reason’?” Jin said in English.

“Yeah--that one. What does it mean?” Ryo asked, looking curious.

“It means--in this context, it basically means why you do something, you know, like why certain people do certain things or why they say things--things they probably don’t mean, but they only say to make themselves seem braver and bolder than they really are, deep inside--”

Jin stared at the back wall, his forehead wrinkling to show his annoyance. Ryo just stared at his teacher, confused.

“Akanishi-sensei?”

“Huh? Oh sorry--where was I?”

Jin continued with his lesson, although he wasn’t doing too well, with Kame on his mind. Lunch time came around although this time Jin wasn’t planning on eating alone. On his way to the teacher’s lounge, he was whistling when he overheard a conversation.

“He dumped you?!”

“Shh! Not so loud, Maru! Yeah--I confessed to Kame this morning and he just rolled his eyes and said, ‘You gotta be kidding me.’ And he got up and walked away. I don’t know what’s wrong with him.”

“I do! He’s a jerk!”

“Maru! Shh! He’s--he’s probably in love with that new teacher--Aka--something.”

“AKANISHI?!”

“SHHH! Come on, let’s get lunch.”

Jin hid behind a door and watched as two students walked away, one of them being the boy that confessed to Kame, Koki Tanaka. He was with his friend, Nakamaru Yuichi and the two looked like they were on a mission, although Jin just assumed it was a mission to get food.

Jin continued walking to the lounge when he saw Kame walking in the opposite direction as him. He was tempted to talk to the boy but decided against it when he saw Kame meeting up with a friend and the two heading off to the cafeteria together. Kame was smiling and Jin could feel his heart skip a beat. He shook his head and proceeded to the lounge.

After lunch, Jin headed back to his classroom and once again he ran into Kame, but this time the younger man was looking for his teacher.

“Akanishi-sensei!”

“Kamenashi-kun--I--I can’t talk right now. I have to get back to class--and I’d advise you to do the same,” Jin said, turning his face away so he couldn’t look Kame in the eye.

“You forget--I have English with you right now. Why don’t we walk together?” Kame suggested, sounding like he had completely forgotten the incident earlier that morning.

“I--I guess that’s okay, since we’re on the way over already,” Jin nodded, finally making eye contact with Kame but then turning his gaze away, nearly running into an open door.

“Watch out!” Kame cried out, grabbing his teacher’s hand and pulling him away.

Jin was dazed for a second but was snapped back into reality when he saw Kame’s hand clutching his. They only stood that way for 5 seconds when Koki walked by and saw the two of them. He immediately frowned and ran the other way, neither Kame nor Jin seeing him.

“T-Thank you. Now--ahem--let’s go to class,” Jin walked quickly, trying to lose Kame behind him but unfortunately for him, the young boy was quick on his feet and kept the pace.

They returned to the classroom to about 20 or 30 screaming teenage boys who were more interested in their conversations about the latest movie or their plans for the weekend than in Jin’s English lesson.

“Excuse me! Everyone--sit in your seats and take out your notes. We’re going to pick up from where we left off yesterday,” Jin instructed, sounding much more adult-like than he had that morning.

“Hey--Hey--Kamenashi--I noticed you and the teacher came back together--where were you at lunch?” a random student whispered to Kame.

“Idiot--stop asking stupid questions and pay attention,” Kame whispered angrily back.

“Kamenashi-kun, is everything alright?”

“Everything’s fine, Akanishi-sensei--please, continue,” Kame smiled sweetly.

Jin sighed and turned around to the blackboard and continued to write English words for his students to copy down.

“’Everything’s fine, Akanishi-sensei’” the same student mocked.

“Shut the hell up or--”

“Or what? You’re gonna have your lover--Akanishi-sensei come save you?”

Several students started laughing and Kame could feel his rage boil over.

“He’s not my lover!” Kame shouted, standing up from his desk and staring down the snarky students.

“Kamenashi-kun!”

“I--I--”

“You what? You’re disrupting my class and I’ve had about enough of your behavior. Will you please--Kamenashi-kun, what--where are you going?” Jin watched as Kame got his bag and walked right out the door, turning around only to give Jin the coldest glare he had ever seen.

Jin ran after him into the hallway but Kame was surprisingly nowhere to be found. Jin just sighed and walked back into the classroom and resumed his lesson, thinking he could catch up with and talk to Kame after school.

When school was over, Jin searched and searched until he finally caught up with Kame.

“Kamenashi-kun--can I speak with you--right now!” Jin grunted, half-panting from having run after Kame and also from being annoyed at not being able to find the student for the entire afternoon.

“Why? What are you going to do? School’s over--it’s time for you to go home, Akanishi-sensei,” Kame rolled his eyes and began walking away.

“Hey! I’m still your teacher even outside of school--and you will show me some respect or--”

“Or what? You gonna give me detention? Look, I could give a shit about any punishment you could give me. I’ve done all the crap the teachers have given me in the past, so anything you want me to do will be nothing in comparison.”

“Excuse me!” Jin sounded very offended, “First of all--when you’re speaking to an adult, you do not use language like that. Second of all--I wasn’t going to punish you--I was just going to talk to you. What’s going on with you? I’ve been here two days and you’ve seemed to have left a lasting impression on me.”

Kame’s scowl faded slowly and he sensuously replied, “I hope that’s a good thing.”

“Kamenashi-kun! That--that right there--that’s your problem, you keep trying to come onto me--despite the fact that I’m your teacher and an adult while you are still a teenager and anything between us would be--”

“Scandalous?” Kame smirked.

“Exactly! It’s--it’s inappropriate and out of the question.”

“Is it really just the age thing and the whole you being my teacher? Because I personally don’t have a problem with either--I mean, I’ve always had a thing for older men,” Kame started to stroke Jin’s forearm, causing the older man to twitch.

“Nevertheless--I--I have someone and I would never do anything to compromise that. And the whole student-teacher thing goes without saying, so please--please stop this,” Jin sighed, looking very concerned about Kame.

Kame just smirked, “Okay then, if that’s how you feel.” The younger man just shrugged his shoulders as he dug his hands into his pockets and began to walk away.

“Kamenashi-kun?!” Jin called out, not knowing the reason why he was.

“Yes?”

“I--I hope there’ll be no more disruptions in my class--I think you’re a very smart boy and you--you shouldn’t get yourself into trouble all the time--and--”

Jin couldn’t finish his sentence because Kame was staring at him, intently, walking forward with his hands still in his pocket. He looked into the taller man’s eyes and simply whispered.

“But getting trouble is so much more fun,” Kame cooed.

Jin gulped and watched as Kame came closer and kissed him, yet again. Jin was caught off-guard but it was as if he was giving into the kiss, when he was about to wrap his arms around the young man’s body. Once he realized what was happening, he immediately pushed away and ran off without saying a word. Kame stood in place looking a little worried but also a bit self-satisfied. He turned in the other direction and just whistled as he made his way home.

Jin kept running until he finally got home. Luckily for him, Yamapi wasn’t home and the apartment was completely empty. Jin touched his mouth and felt his chest as his heart sped faster than he ever knew it could.

He staggered over to the bed that he shared with the man he loved and fell face forward on top of it. Before he knew it, he was asleep and in his mind, was Kame, particularly in the form of a dream.

“Akanishi-sensei--I want you,” Kame said, breathlessly. Then Kame took off the shirt he was wearing and was about to fully undress when Jin’s vision became blurred and he felt his chest grow heavy. He coughed and opened his eyes to find that Yamapi was leaning on him from across the bed.

“AH! Pi! You’re too heavy--I can’t breathe,” Jin cried out, half-laughing.

“What?! Are you calling me fat? How could you, Jin? You know I’ve been dieting,” Yamapi said in a mock dramatic tone of voice.

“Welcome home,” Jin smiled, getting up after Pi had gotten off of him and kissing his boyfriend hello.

Pi stopped and licked his lips, like he was trying to think. Jin’s smile faded as he stared at Pi who was consistently licking his lips.

“Mmmm--you taste like strawberries--have you been eating strawberries?” Pi laughed, poking Jin in the stomach.

Jin blushed, realizing that the taste of Kame’s kiss must’ve still been on his lips.

“Uh--uh yeah, I had some for lunch. One of the other teachers brought some and I ate a couple. I didn’t realize you could still taste it,” Jin rambled as he wiped off his mouth meekly.

Pi laughed and got off the bed and went to go start dinner. Jin sighed, relieved but still feeling extremely guilty. In theory, he hadn’t done anything wrong but since he had, in a way, let Kame kiss him, Jin couldn’t help but feel a stinging pain in the pit of his stomach. He got up slowly off the bed and staggered into the living room.

Later that night, as Jin attempted to go to sleep, Kame came up into his mind again. He didn’t say anything but just looked towards Jin in an innocent fashion, with his eyes widened and his chin lowered as he stared up into the eyes of Jin, like a child looking at an adult. Jin could feel himself moving forward and his hand touching Kame’s cheek. Just as he was about to kiss the boy, Jin woke up, panting and sweating. He looked at Pi who was smiling and deep in sleep, snoring on occasion.

Jin sighed heavily and looked at the clock, realizing he still had a few hours before the alarm was to go off. He sat back in bed with his eyes open and fixed on the ceiling. He then lifted the covers and looked down, shocked before pulling the covers back and covering his face. The throbbing in his pants was a clear sign of his arousal and attraction to Kame.

Determined to keep the sanctity of his life as a teacher and as Pi’s boyfriend, Jin avoided speaking with Kame in anything less than a professional tone. He avoided Kame as much as possible except in class when he would only coldly answer his questions without giving any hint of emotion. A whole week went by and Jin thought that he might actually have accomplished something by remaining as professional as possibly as he could.

But what he didn’t expect was for an unexpected rumor to come up. One day as he was making his way to the teacher’s lounge for lunch, he overheard his co-workers talking to one another.

“I heard they’ve been meeting secretly after school in order to have sex in the school library.”

“I heard that Akanishi-sensei gave him a key to his apartment and that’s where they go when they want to be alone.”

“I heard that one of the students saw the two of them holding hands and smiling endearingly at one another--right here on school property!”

As the whispers continued, Jin could feel his heart sink. But it was what he heard next that shocked him the most.

“You know this isn’t the first time right?” One teacher said.

The others replied, “What do you mean?”

“Well--this is just a rumor but--I’ve heard that the only reason why Kamenashi-kun transferred here was because he got kicked out of his old school when rumors of his relationship with one of the male teachers came to light. Apparently the two of them had been sneaking around after school and one day a student found the two of them in the teacher’s classroom right in the middle of having sex! The teacher was fired and Kamenashi-kun was expelled. The only reason why he was accepted here is because his father is friends with the principal.”

Jin’s heart stopped. He didn’t know what to think and all he could do was fall slowly onto the floor and stare blankly with his mouth open. He wasn’t sure if what was being said was true, at least about the part about Kame’s expulsion from his previous school for such a scandal. Jin couldn’t handle his mixed feelings and went on a quest to find Kame and confront him about the rumors.

Luckily for him, Kame was alone when he found him, sitting at a lunch table and reading a book. When Kame looked up, he smiled awkwardly but then frowned when he saw the look on Jin’s face.

“Akanishi-sensei--”

“Is it true?”

“Huh?”

“Did you really get kicked out of your previous school because you had an affair with your teacher?” Jin boldly asked.

Kame sighed and put his book down. He put his hands over his eyes and then rubbed him down the sides of his face before looking back up at Jin.

“Yes, it’s true.”

“WHAT?!”

“Well, I wasn’t kicked out. It was more like I was asked to leave by the school officials. It seemed I would’ve set a bad example for my fellow students or--some stupid shit like that. I really don’t remember.”

“And the part about you having an affair with your teacher?” Jin gulped.

“That part is 100% true. Yes--I had an affair with my teacher BUT--it wasn’t what you think it was,” Kame wagged his finger in Jin’s face as Jin sat down at the table looking very shocked.

“What do you mean it’s not what I think it is? What do you think I think it is?” Jin babbled.

“Well it wasn’t like with you, is what I mean. That thing was just about the sex--I wasn’t really interested in my teacher--I just wanted to have sex. And I already said--I like older men and he was an older man and he was interested in having sex--with me. So we started having sex after school--mainly in his office but sometimes in the classroom--in the janitor’s closet--in his car--a couple times in his apartment--”

“Wait--wait--wait a second! I don’t know if I really need to know all the details,” Jin shuddered as he put his hands up in front of his body.

“Well, you asked,” Kame shrugged his shoulders, picking up his book and continuing to read.

Jin placed his hand on the book and pushed it down slowly so he could look Kame in the eyes.

“What do you mean ‘it’s wasn’t like with you’?” Jin asked.

“I mean--I didn’t love him--like I love you. I wasn’t in love with him--like I said, it was just about the sex--nothing more.”

Jin sighed and hung his head. He rubbed the sides of his forehead as Kame just chuckled.

“You’re so cute, Akanishi-sensei,” Kame smiled as he picked up his book again.

“DON’T SAY STUFF LIKE THAT!” Jin warned, getting up from his seat and looking around aimlessly, hoping no one had heard them.

“Why not? It’s the truth--and why are you acting so paranoid? It’s not like anyone thinks anything of us,” Kame stated.

“See there--that’s where you’re wrong! There’s rumors about us--me and you--apparently we’ve been--doing it--in all sorts of places--and also there was supposedly a student who saw us holding hands!”

“Oh that--yeah, I think someone must’ve seen us when you almost ran into the door and I kinda pulled you away. It was just taken out of context, it’s not a big deal,” Kame sounded like he could care less about the rumors and just continued on with his book.

Jin sighed again and his shoulders drooped. Kame noticed and spoke up.

“I wouldn’t worry about it--rumors get started all the time. I heard one about one of the teachers stealing supplies from the chemistry lab so he could make meth at his apartment. Things get pulled out of thin air and they get blown out of proportion and a week later, no one remembers. It’s just the circle of life.”

Jin looked at Kame, acting as if he couldn’t believe the words coming out of the younger man’s mouth.

“The fact that you can be so calm about this situation worries me. Maybe you can afford to have a rumor about you--but I can’t! I’m a teacher for Pete’s sake! I can’t have those kinds of rumors swirling around out there--you know what that could do to my career?” Jin placed his hands on his face and shook his head furiously.

Kame got up and placed his hand on his teacher’s shoulder, “Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it--before you know it those rumors will be replaced by some other outlandish lie about one of the other teachers. Hell if you want me to, I can start a rumor about one of the female teachers being a part-time stripper or something.”

Jin glared at Kame, “Thank you but that’s really not necessary.” He looked at his watch and said, “The bell’s just about to ring--you better get your stuff together and--Kamenashi-kun?”

Kame was staring at something and Jin turned to look at what it was. He saw Koki standing several feet away with a scowl on his face and his arms crossed against his chest. Kame glared at the other boy and it seemed like the two were having a telepathic argument. Jin smiled nervously at Koki and waved but Koki just rolled his eyes and walked away.

Kame walked away too and Jin ran after him. When they arrived to their English class, all eyes were on them as soon as they entered the room. Jin blushed but Kame didn’t seem to notice. He just sat in his desk and slumped down in his chair. Jin nervously called for attention and just as he was about to call attendance, someone coughed.

“(Cough)WHORE(cough)”

A bunch of students started laughing and Kame shook his head and mouthed for Jin just to continue. But Jin got angry and yelled out, “Who said that? Tell me right now!”

“Akanishi-sensei!”

Jin turned and saw the principal standing in the doorway. His eyes widened and he stared shock.

“Akanishi-sensei--may I see you in my office please--as soon as possible?” the principal courteously asked, his usually cheery facial expression replaced with a concerned frown.

Jin gulped and nodded.
