Pay attention: this one is for all the parties, but it's not a soundbite1.
It starts with a Republican2 who sponsored a bill (HR 3808) to make the notarized documents from one state legally recognized in all 50. Sounds innocuous? Only if you haven't been keeping up with the not-reported-on-TV news.
Have you heard about the fraudulent mortgage foreclosure scandal? No? See [1]. A brief summary: Banks are forging documents to foreclose willy-nilly. Judges (at least in Florida, for certain, possibly more I haven't heard of) are colluding in the practice by refusing to do due diligence. Try googling "robo-signing" if you want to start doing your own dully diligent research. People who have documentation proving they have been up-to-date on their mortgages can (and do) lose their homes. 3. If this bill passes it will allow these banks to shop for the state with the most lax, most easily corrupted notaries and forge the necessary documentation to fraudulently foreclose anywhere in the country. Yes, this means your otherwise legally-protected state.
The bill just passed in the Senate[4] before they "recessed." Quotation marks very relevant. President Obama's daily press guy (Gibbs) held a press conference claiming that President Obama would not sign HR 3808, and therefore it would not become law via
pocket veto.. Yay for the Democrats in the Executive Branch, even if the Democrats in both houses of Congress are going to screw you! Only that is not, in fact what is going to happen.
Here's the rub: Harry Reid did not actually adjourn the Senate. Congress is in
pro forma. They're conducting meetings even if they haven't got anything scheduled to do on the floor, so they're still in session. Which means that unless President Obama specifically vetos this bill--which he is not going to do--that bill will become law.
Our president is either a complete incompetent (unsurprising considering his lack of experience doing anything productive) or a sleaze bag liar (see "Chicago Machine politics"). Either way he and the current Congress - all the Democrats and any Republicans in bed with the so-called stimulus porkfest - need to go.
November can't come too soon.
Update Four hours ago, the President got the message and
actually vetoed the bill. Good for you Mr. Obama!
In better news, (according to Bloomberg news) at this point 40 attorneys general are opening investigations into the fraudulent foreclosures.

[1] Part, umteenth-million in the series: Why what's called "the mainstream press," "drive-by journalism" or "old school media" but which is in effect the J-school grads utterly failing to do their constitutional duties in favor of lazy, self-indulgent bias, is going to leave you utterly in the dark if you rely on it for news you need.
[2] Representative Robert Aderholt from Alabama. RHINO? Who knows. Throw the bum out.
[3] All right. I'll do your work for you. Librarians! Filling in for a khreppetastic biased, lazy, propagandistic press since... who knows? Any time is too long. Via firehose:
http://4closurefraud.org[4] HR 3808 passed by voice vote on April 27th (no record of who said aye or nay). On Sept. 27th it passed by unanimous consent It went to the President's desk on Sept. 30th.
