I had a weird dream that I can't get out of my head.
In it, Sean and I visited our old elementary school for some sort of orientation. It looked very different. The library was huge and sloped inward until it reached a large circular help desk in the middle, which was surrounded by a moat. Our old Honors teacher, Mrs. Wood, was there, and after talking a bit about what we'd all been up to, she had us watch a video for the orientation. The video was a documentary about a youth hockey team in a small town. Interviews with the parents were interspersed with video of one of the kids' hockey matches. At the end of the video, there was very grainy footage of the kids in the hockey arena. They are unsupervised and the lights are off, the documentarian is watching from a distance, unnoticed. The kids have cut a hole in the ice, and they are attempting to jump off a series of large ledges and into the whole. The first kid jumps and hits a ledge on the way down, and another kid does the same. It looks dangerous but they are not seriously hurt. Like lemmings the kids keep trying to jump into this small hole in the ice. Then one kid jumps and completely avoids all the ledges. He hits the ice and slides under a crack. The camera zooms in and the kid his trying to drag his body out from under the ledge. His face is contorted with this bizarre look of shock and horror, and he pulls his lifeless legs out from under the ledge and we see that they are broken. I still cant forget the look on his face. The video ends and we are all very shaken. I am about to ask her why she has shown us this video, and then I remember that she died earlier this year. I feel absolutely horrible because she was one of my favorite teachers, but then for some reason this feeling of calming understanding washes over me and I am completely secure in my knowledge of the world and how it works.
All in all it was pretty weird.
