She's twenty-one days old today. Actually, in about three hours, she'll be twenty-two days old. In twenty-one days, we've learned a little bit about her, such as the fact that she's a modest little girl, who prefers being clothed. And that she prefers not to partake in the processes that enable her to be clean. She also does not seem to enjoy sleep, as her feathery eyelids flutter open every so often when she ought to be dozing, perhaps checking to make sure we're still there. Or maybe she's just a surveillance baby. She does, however, enjoy being my extra appendage for most of the day, thereby giving my left arm a workout it may or may not have sorely needed. And best of all, she seems to like offering her anime smile at inappropriate times. Amidst all this, she's teaching us about sleep deprivation. I guess the lack of nighttime shut-eye officially inducts us into parenthood. And here I thought, after two nights of relatively blissful sleep (eons ago, but really, just a fortnight ago), that we had a nice baby who wasn't that much of a handful. Clearly, I was delusional, or just overly idealistic.
