i just watched juno. i know, about four months after the rest of the world, but it was terribly cute. it's one of those films that you're so delayed in seeing that you already kinda know everything about it before you see it, but it was still good. cutest film soundtrack ever. particularly liked the use of cat power's "sea of love" but the kimya/moldly peaches/belle and sebastian was lovely jubbly too. i kinda stopped listening to cat power after the horrendousness of her live performance but maybe i can start listening again because actually when she's not fucked up or being a rude cow she's got a pretty good voice.

i saw kimya dawson live last wednesday which was just a delight. she's so cute and talked about her baby all the time, who was backstage and she had to rush off the stage at the end to breastfeed which is so un rock and roll i loved it. she's made a cd of kids songs, and the songs she performed from it were ace. there's a song about a strawberry which i can't remember but it was good. unfortunately the abc fucked up with the tickets a bit - all the tickets said doors at 8, so we turned up almost bang on 8 and the support was just finishing - after starting at 7.30 and playing to an empty bar. i felt so sad for her.

thursday night was a family outing to the opera to see falstaff, which was pretty good. i'm not really into opera but it was all in the name of family bonding and i did actually enjoy it. friday i made dinner for my family and jamie (mixed italian bits and bobs). we had some wine and sampled some of the various vodkas in our booze cupboard. my folks have the most immensely stocked cupboard of spirits. they hardly drink, and when they do it's generally gin for mum and ale or red wine for dad, once a fortnight if that. but this cupboard's literally overflowing with five types of vodka, three types of gin, various rums and martini and kahlua and tia maria and amaretto and tequila and schnapps. it's glorious and i really don't make enough use of it. maybe when i move out i'll take half of it with me, or at least use it as some inspiration for my own booze cupboard (which i will probably empty as readily as i fill). oh speaking of which, i went to see the mortgage advisor this week which was useful. i just have to save a deposit really. but if i am sensible and get on with that i should have my own place by the end of the year which is super exciting.

what else did i do this weekend? i had a seriously wholesome day today. i did laundry and rolled sushi and made roast lamb for ross and my family (started with friend halloumi with pomegranate and basil salad, then spicy crusted roast shoulder of lamb, served with mixed roast veg and pine nut/lemon/parsley cous cous). i walked the dogs and did the supermarket shop. last night lauren and i went for dinner in town and saw "caramel" which was a good girly film. it has felt like a quiet recouperative weekend, even though i've actually been fairly busy. i worked last weekend and worked next weekend so i guess it was rather a nice balance of rest and fun.

work's going dandy. seem to be doing pretty well, although i don't feel as stimulated or challenged as i have previously. nightshift starts friday though. i hate it, i hate it, i hate it. it's antisocial and rubbish work. seven days of sleep and seven nights of mundane work, interspersed with crisis moments. after that it's HOLIDAYS though. one week in barcelona followed by five days in jamie's cottage up north. five days with my two favourite boys in the world and jamie's new beau. who could maybe become a favourite boy too, who knows. cullen skink and gin and fags. can't beat it.

anyway i'm roasting and it's making me feel sleepy so i might just make the most of that and get a good 8 hours snoozle. happy sunday to all, and to all a good night.
