Dungeness crab season! I was thrilled to finally get my first crustacean of the winter, though a bit late. Some Pugliese bread and a very large napkin accompanied my extremely messy yet delicious meal.
A quote from
Morley Safer's CBS Evening News report from Cam Ne (a village that American troops essentially destroyed) in 1965:
The action wounded three women, killed one baby, wounded one Marine, and netted four old men as prisoners. Today's operation is the frustration of Vietnam in miniature. There is little doubt that American fire power can win a military victory here. But to a Vietnamese peasant whose home means a lifetime of backbreaking labor, it will take more than presidential promises to convince him that we are on his side.
I'll leave the determination of historical parallels up to you. :)
Another
indication that encyclopedias, newspapers and journals still need editors to sort out good content from bad.
Now, I'm probably the ultimate Star Trek fan (short of those who actually wear
Starfleet uniforms when they show up for jury duty), but I can't really justify
this extravagant purchase. I guess I'll stick with the VHS's for now.
Apparently
gaming is not limited to the younger set.
Here's
a wonderful and useful resource for those of you who are interested in seeing exactly where all those campaign contributions end up.
And
good news for those of us who care about equal rights for those who choose to love people of the same gender.
After I devoured the crab, an enjoyable evening out last night with a good friend, followed by a lovely telephone conversation with another, much more distant, confidante. While I was carving a big Thanksgiving turkey this past holiday weekend I gave a silent thanks for friends like these, and I hope that if you're reading this you're aware that you're probably among those people I was thinking about.
Take care,
Darren
