...I guess you can all now call me "Doctor Galadriel." ^_~
Thank you for all the good wishes! They definitely helped. <3
The exam went extremely smoothly, better than I could have hoped. It was only an hour long, which was a surprise, since I was prepared for two hours minimum, and ready for a longer haul. But it was a really friendly room (two of three examiners in attendance, plus the Chair), with no major concerns, and they ran out of questions to ask. (And with very few exceptions, they were questions I already had prepared answers to.)
Then I left the room so they could talk to my supervisor (one was present, the other is currently on Research Leave, and not in the country). She came out 5 minutes later, then we waited for another 10 minutes while they finalized their recommendations, and then they asked us back in.
That was when they told me that I'd been granted my PhD, and all they were expecting is for me to clean up some typos that slipped past me. Everything else? Optional, or as one examiner put it, "Oh, those changes are for the book!" O_o The other examiner said that it was an afternoon's work, max.
...I literally could not believe it. At all. I was so braced for 6 more months of work or something. This? I have until June 17th to fix it up, so I'll be actually doing that in the next couple days.
My supervisor tells me that during their consultation with her they said that I was incredibly impressive, and they both told me directly that they really, really enjoyed reading my thesis (both content- and writing-wise). The Chair actually said that while he's moderated lots of these exams, and they tend to be more or less interesting (the Chairs are always from an unrelated discipline), he really enjoyed this one and is going to look up Edward Gorey later because now he's interested! My supervisor also told me that my exam went extremely well, very smoothly, and that she's never seen such a clean pass! ^_^ So that's all really encouraging stuff.
Afterwards, my father and I went to my supervisor's for dinner, which was nice, and while we came back to the hotel fairly early in the evening, once we were there, I collapsed. I don't think I was aware how tired I was until after everything was over, when all the preparation and stress of the day dissipated. ...Weirdly, though, I never felt that nervous in the lead-up, at least not for more than a minute or two here and there.
So, yup. I walked into a friendly exam room, the process was surprisingly pleasant (and short) and I've been granted my PhD! Woo and stuff! *snort* ^_~
