Grrr.

Dear Elections Alberta Officer,

I hardly think it is appropriate to chide a constituent for attempting to exercise her right to vote (the election was called two whole weeks ago! oooh!), especially as you do not know the individual circumstances behind the timing of the request, and certainly in light of how I could complain about Elections ( Read more... )

Thanks! It was... better than I expected, but still not good. (It was Mirror, Mirror in case you were wondering.) Still, I'm pretty easy. 3 minutes of Sean on screen (5 if you count the bit in the credits), and I was happy. ♥ ^_^

Ah, bureaucracy. There's some small (very small) comfort to be had in that it's the same in every corner of the world.

So what deeply stupid Sean movie are you off to see? Details, bb, details. :)

*snerk* Very, very small comfort. (And the officer in question got a slightly edited version of what I posted as a response to her chiding. *shakes fist*)

I went to see Mirror, Mirror. About an hour and forty minutes of Julia Roberts being evil, impressive-if-ridiculous costumes and settings, and jokes that fell flat over and over and over again in exchange for about 5 minutes total of Sean. Granted, he didn't just phone-in those 5 minutes, and he pretty much showed up the rest of the cast, so there was that. The rest, though, totally not worth it. The movie wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it was nowhere near good, either.

Damn the voting trouble.
I am allowed to vote for council and European parliament only. Being not a British citizen I am not allow to vote in the general British Elections but living outside of Germany I am not allowed to vote there either despite being German.

Gives one hope, doesn’t it.

*sigh* That sucks. I'm sorry you're not allowed to vote in Germany, or fully in Britain either. I suppose I should be grateful that I'm able to vote at home, but holy crap, the ruling party in the Provincial seat has made sure to set the election -- from announcement to actual voting day -- in as little time as is allowable by law (about a month) so that they have a major advantage over the other parties. (They know the election is coming before it's called, so they can get organized, while all the other parties have to scramble.) Turns out this is also an excellent way to screw over absentee voters, especially when your website form won't allow anyone outside of Canada to enter their mailing address correctly. *shakes fist* Anyway, sorry, ranting.

Heh. The movie was better than I expected, in that it wasn't horrific, but it wasn't anywhere near good either. Sean is truly in it for about five minutes, counting credits, which is a shame, but at least he out-acts everyone else for those five minutes. ^_^

I do understand that you are angry. Those bl**** politicians I one way they want you to vote (preferably for them) but on the other hand they are using every nook and cranny to make sure that they get the upper hand giving a damn to your voting rights.
So your ranting is totally understandable.

I almost thought you would come back with such a review of the movie. I’ve seen the ad-trailer and all in all found it ridiculous and am determined not to spend money at the theater but wait for the dvd version. So I can cut out Seans part and the rest goes to the *well where it belongs*. But I have to say that I admire Sean for putting always effort into his appearances not matter how trashy the movie is, he’s making the brief appearance in.

Couldn’t help but smile about the out-acting remark. It will be one of those where the director (like in Ronin) finally says “Why didn’t we give that English bloke more screen time?” *chuckles*

It's amazing, isn't it? And at least in this case, I have no love for the ruling party, so making it hard for me to vote is a bonus for them. (Not, of course, that their strategy is about me. ^_^)

Yeah, probably a good plan on your part. I figured it'd get me out and about, it might be half-assed interesting, and, well, I've watched some pretty horrible stuff for my favourites, so... *shrug* There's a nice not-really-Sean bit at the beginning (some animation where only the narrator talks and the animated characters are general stand ins for the actors), then Sean's very late appearance, and the rest is just... Well, I looked at the pretty (ridiculous) costumes and entertained myself that way. *G*

Ha! So true! Here's a thought, Directors of the world: Cast Sean in more movies where he's the main character (or an important secondary character), is on screen most of the time, and makes it to the end without dying! ^_^

Hahahahahaha. No, really. I just laugh in the face of any pretense of democracy in Alberta. Because I know better.

*sigh*

But I hope your package gets there in time!

*snort* I know, eh? I find myself, more often than not, saying, "I love Alberta, but I hate the politics." And then to have some silly jumped-up general chide me for trying vote was just the cherry on today's dirt sundae. Meh.

Thanks! My fingers are crossed! I figure if I get it by early next week, I can vote and do a quick turnaround with a courier service. Because god knows, it should cost me $30+ to vote.

I saw you got your skates! Did you get them at Canadian Tire, or somewhere else? *curious*

Ugh, ugh, ugh on the voting. May the (courier) odds be ever in your favour, to quote Hunger Games.

I actually ended up at Sportchek for the skates. There was an extensive transit plan to get to a used skate place (45 min. buses each way) and then two options for Canadian Tire (about an hour each way), but with a Sportchek 2 blocks away, I started there and had a surprisingly decent shopping experience.

The guy was so excited that I was getting back into skating! He was almost beside himself expressing how awesome skating is. "It's... the best. The best thing. I mean, it's so... Canadian."

And they have a skate sharpening/tune-up shop in the store. I didn't know any of these this, being a very non-sports person.

Ah.... hahahahaha bureaucracy. /punches them all in the face for you. I still remember my country's media heavily siding with the ruling party and still getting flack for siding too much with the Opposition. What is democracy?

Are you watching Mirror Mirror or Cleanskin? 8D?

Hee. Thank you. Sheesh. It's amazing how these things go, isn't it? The ruling party is specifically employing a strategy that has them with a major advantage by calling the election with barely a month of campaigning time, which of course means they're all organized, and the rest of the parties have to scramble. Oh, and those of us who need to mail in votes from far-flung parts of the world are screwed too. *sigh*

Oh, I wish it was Cleanskin. I can't wait for that. No, I went to Mirror, Mirror, which was bad. Not as bad as I was expecting, but definitely not good. Sean was good, though, but then, he was in it for about five minutes total, and it was like watching another movie while he was on screen. A good movie. And then he stopped talking, and bam, we were back in bad!movie-town.

/crawls back. Spent yesterday with my head buried into a book, sorry!

And yeah, exactly. The ruling party always has an advantage - they basically can do whatever they want, and they tend to do that to try to hold onto power by whatever means. :| :| :| What happened to democracy, man.

It came out in Britain so long ago and I haven't seen it anywhere else. But I went to watch Mirror Mirror as well and I agree with you completely. Julia Roberts's performance makes me cringe so much. At least the Prince and Snow White were eye candy, goddamn. It's not helped by the fact that I really can't believe Roberts as the beautiful Queen, sorry.
