Weird Community Behaviour (Unmodded Post Settings Mysteriously Becoming Modded.)

Oct 13, 2011 22:55

That's... weird. A couple of the comms I maintain/mod have been switched from unmoderated posting to moderated posting without either myself or my co-mods touching the settings. Has this happened to anyone else? (I also had two comms I regularly crosspost to toss up "Your entry has been put into the moderation queue. It will be accepted or rejected by one of the community moderators," so I'm wondering if that's what's going on there too.) Might be worth it to take a second to check? (It'll say something like "Posting Access: Moderated" in the profile. You can change it to unmoderated through the "Settings" option under Manage Communities.)

sons_of_gondor is intentionally moderated right now, so I'm not referring to it. gondorcest and faramir_fics are the ones that have had their switches flipped, whereas some of my other comms have not. I've lodged a Support request to find out what's going on, but in the meantime, I thought I'd compare notes with other comm mods. Ladies?

ETA: Turns out hobbitfilmfic was switched on us too. *sigh* However, I have received a reply from Support:
As part of a spam-fighting measure, moderation was turned on for older communities that were set to open membership and unrestricted posting. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you. Your community maintainers will be able to adjust this appropriately if they wish to do so.
Irritating, but at least there's a reason. (Too bad they didn't, you know, notify people before flipping the switch. Meh.) So if you run a comm, now might be a good time to check your settings; just FYI, the links that tripped the whitelist were internal LJ links, as they led to my journal. *snort* Something to keep in mind, especially regarding fic/art/fan comms.
