Finally, finally had a chance to watch the first video from the set of The Hobbit. Despite having to fight with Facebook to get it to load, then giving up and finding it on YouTube, then watching it in fits and starts as it loaded erratically, I teared up multiple times. *sniffs* It was a near thing, right at the end, as I almost burst into tears.

I found myself moist eyed at certain points but also a bit thrown off-balance because they had so successfully created the LOTR world that I kept wondering who these folk were in someone else's home (although that's precisely what they do, invade, Bilbo's comfortable existence) - and what height they were going to be in Bag-End, since we never saw Gimli in Hobbiton. The actors look too big right now (except Ian, who's supposed to be too big), thinking of the relative heights in the Rivendell Fellowship portrait, but they may put them on very low stools...hmmm.

Isn't it amazing - we sit at home, or in the cinema, and somehow just ACCEPT what we see, like a storybook, close the covers, nighty night -
But this really brings home the enormousness of such a project , battalions and regiments of people involved, Peter Jacksons boundless imagination..... the years and years of thought, dreams and worries, - the finding the right people for technical work, the dedication of the wardrobers, even those that come behind with the brooms and brushes to sweep the floor clean for the next day's witchcraft.
