Cards and Non-Taxing Secret Santas--

Holiday Cards Update:

At this point it looks like I probably won't get to the cards until I have some time off from work earliest, which is not until the 20th of this month. *sigh* I'm giving it a go, though, and last year I was 50% successful (cards but not packages went out), so I'm hoping for another jump in probabilities this time. (Cross your fingers for me.) I believe I've sent my address off to everyone who requested it, but if you still want it, just give me a poke and I'll cough it up. I've been terrible this year about signing up for cards; it's not that I don't want them, but rather that I'm afraid of not reciprocating, which I'm fighting hard against. That's code for, "I'd love a card if you want to send me one, but please don't feel obliged!" ^_~

Anyway, until I actually sit down and do them, I'll continue to take addresses here.

LibraryThing:

I recently added a LibraryThing button to my LJ profile, which has turned out to be really helpful, as I actually click through and check there more often now, and I've just found out that you can Friend people and leave messages via it! That's pretty nifty, and with my email notifications on, I won't actually miss what's going on over there. (Button goes to the 96 books/calendars in my library I've catalogued so far; that's, um, a fraction at best.) I've also started watching the two LT feeds: library_thing and thingology, which are turning out to be pretty interesting, and the former made me aware of a cute little holiday LibraryThing activity that I'm seriously considering signing up for--

SantaThing!

--Secret Santa via LibraryThing! You pay $25 US to cover up to two books (totalling no more than $20) and shipping, and you're assigned a random LT member for whom you choose a title (or two) available on Amazon while someone else does the same for you. It sounds like it could be fun, and the only problem I can see is that while anyone anywhere can participate, the books can only be shipped to the US, Canada or Britain, so anyone outside of those countries would have to set up a relay to get the books to them (i.e. someone to receive the books for them in one of the qualifying countries who would then turn around and send them on). Apparently you can sign up people other than yourself, too, if you want to surprise someone with a Secret Santa gift, which is a sweet twist on the usual format.

Signups for SantaThing close at noon (Eastern Time) Thursday, Dec. 13. I'm mulling it over in the meantime. Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.

...Hmmm. ^_~

ETA and completely OT: I love my seasonal Samoyed icons. *G*
