*points up at icon* The things I do for that man. Really. Tsk. So last night, I found myself watching the Brit Awards (broadcast on CBC) because our Mr. Bean was a presenter ( Read more... )

*lol* Poor kid! Here: *offers chocolate chip cookie* I never watch award shows, largely for the reasons you've stated. Though I can absolutely understand why you'd want to risk it for Bean. I'd do the same.

With the "America" thing you've brought up a small quandary for us, er, Not-Canadian Americans. Residing in a country with a long, awkward name like United States of America (what the hell were our forefathers thinking??), if we're not called Americans, what the heck shall we call ourselves? (aside from Fucked by the Current Administration)

Most of us don't mind "Yanks," though that's fairly regional, referring to people in the north, and primarily east of the Mississippi, and if you call a Southerner a Yankee he may just pop you one.

So what do we call ourselves? United Statesians? Eek.

I tend to consider myself a Californian first, and yes, I'll say it - an American second. Of course, a lot of people in the rest of the country consider California - and most of the west coast, really - a separate nation, anyway. We're part of the Pacific Rim here, and honestly I know more about China, Japan or Australia than I do about Nebraska.

Sigh. It's a bugger, having an identity crisis... Oo, I like Loreena McKennitt, and Nickelback.

p.s. Don't stab out your ears. You won't be able to hear The Killers.

Yay, cookies! Cookies make everything better. Thanks. *hugs* *munches*

Oh, god, I barely ever watch them myself, and when I do, it's for very specific reasons. I think the last time I really paid attention it was when RotK swept the Oscars. (And honestly, The Junos? Horribly, horribly dull. Sure, everyone's nice, professional and polite during them, but it makes you want to swallow your own tongue just to get out of watching... because it's a hypnotic sort of dull, where you forget that you can actually change the channel. *facepalm*)

I must admit, I snickered over the last bit, which isn't fair, but it's SO TRUE. My sympathies. Actually, I'm not picking at "American" so much as "America," because there's more to America than you guys, and when one refers to the US as "America," it's (unintentionally) lumping thirty-four other countries in with the US (North and South America), which can be interpreted as either saying we're the same as you, or we don't exist. Neither of those are good options.

Cool! I'll see what I can do. I'm sure I can manage McKennitt and some of Nickelback's stuff, but I don't know if I can successfully rip The Long Road, because it's got all sorts of annoying protections on it. Will see what I can come up with, though!

Oh, that kind of you! But don't worry - I've got some McKennitt, and I can grab Nickleback (heh heh... grab. never mind) over at Wherehouse, just down the street. Love "The Long Road"! I got hooked on McKennitt after a Discovery Channel special on witches, many moons ago.

I do understand about the "America" thing, given that there's north and south, and that covers a lot of ground. I mean, people living in Bolivia are living in America, except that they're Bolivian. Er, never mind. You know.
