*sighs* Why do I have to be so damn good at hand sewn rolled hems? Now any time I do it by machine I'm going to think about how much better it could look if I did it by hand. Ahh the joys of being good at the freakishly time consuming things our sub-threshold OCD focuses on.
Finished a mockup partlet just to try out the pattern since I was forced to abandon my computer for a while due to power loss issues. Also managed to finish the quilting on my bumroll. Still have to put some sort of ties on it and the farthingale to keep it from moving from the weight of my skirts, but the bitchy part is done and I'm exceedingly happy with the overall effect.
So later today I started on the for real partlet (based on
this design) out of some white linen blend stuff with tiny embroidered polka dots on it. Hence my awareness of the niceness of my hand sewing. I figure its sort of an up front piece and its supposed to look delicate, I can afford to spend a bit of extra time to hand stitch it. At least its made enough of a difference in the appearance that I don’t feel I'm wasting the time.
Eventually I'll make one out of the silk I have left over from making my flags, which is a lovely white semi-transparent 8mm habotai. While this time I made it from a yard diameter circle, I think next time I'm going to do it in an oval shape, as I'm going to have to remove some fabric on the sides anyway.
