In praise of season 8

Wednesday I took the day off work to Get Shit Done, which invariably means a little time spent Getting Shit Done and a little time spent Watching Supernatural Reruns on TNT. As one does. (I'm home. It's on. What am I supposed to do, ignore it

I agree about season 8, pretty much. I hate the Amelia part of the storyline. Admittedly my biggest complaint is that she is a LOUSY Veterinarian. Some guy hits a dog and brings it in. It is obviously a purebred dog. Does Amelia make any attempt to find the owners? Heck no! She doesn't even put up posters or go to "Lost my doggie dot com". She tells Sam he has to take Riot, even though he states categorically that he can't take care of him. I've volunteered in animal rescue, you don't ever give a dog to someone who doesn't want it. You check references and make sure the poor thing won't be abandoned at the nearest rest stop.

I've even created a backdated head canon, where the British MOL realized Sam was suicidal and the unseen "old men" want to keep him alive, so they shove Riot in front of Sam's car and pay Amelia off to make him take the dog and later to romance Sam. I know, I'm weird, but the story annoys me THAT much!

Benny sacrificing himself was nice and somewhat redemptive, but I still hate that the writers decided to 1) keep the illusion that he was "a better brother" than Sam and 2) that murdering poor Martin was just fine and dandy. I have my own head canon for Benny as well, but you've been subjected to one already, so I won't stretch the point.

I did like Larp and the Real Girl. I like Charlie basically and don't understand the parts of fandom that resent her so much. She was especially good in this episode. I like Sam and the Trials and the second half of season 8 (except Taxi Driver for oh, so many reasons). But the first part of season 8 is just awful. It taints the entire season for me.

I loved Charlie in s8. She turned into a Mary Sue eventually, which made some of us dislike her or at least get tired of her. And yes, Taxi Driver, sigh. So pretty (purgatory Sam!) but so flawed.
