They're remembered - forevermore, a tale for the ages, constantly retold, always relevant, a touching tale of friendship-love-admiration-devotion-absolution-sacrifice; reborn with each page that turns, going through the motions as if it were a play, the ending always in sight, always known, an unavoidable force of nature that they welcome with open arms, if only because it means that they'll be together again in death, waiting in timeless bliss until the next showing.

They're remembered. That's all that matters.

At the core of Achilles' wrath, there is an emptiness too deep to contemplate, for Patroclus lies dead.

He pursues his enemy through the embattled lines of war, around Troy's mighty walls, and unto the very gates of Hades' realm, for, even as the arrow pierces his flesh, he has but one desire. Never parted, their names will be in legend twined.
