Gay builders

Nov 14, 2005 10:28

I can only assume that the building site at the end of my road is being run by gay builders. As I walked to work this morning, I got a very loud blast of Abba, The Winner Takes It All. It seemed to be an unusual thing to be coming from a building site, anyway.

What things have seemed out of place to you recently, dear reader?

Tch. Everyone who's anyone knows that that means: In The Style Of noradre. It helps if you know that noradre is The Artist Formerly Known as Leem.

He has a history of posting "I'm listening to X. What are you listening to?" posts in newsgroups, leading to fun, frivolity and, erm, something else beginning with f.

No, not that one, you rude sod.

The local paper kiosk where I gets my coffee in the evening is run by a very pleasant young Indian couple and their baby (less than 6 months, he really doesn't chip in all that much), last week they were listening to Metallica on the radio, which was odd enough for me to ask why.

They both spend all day learning English (with various dictionaries, exam papers, grammar books and so on) someone advised them to try listening to rock music to see if they could distinguish the words, the librarian they asked for a rock CD obviously thought Metallica was the ticket.

Fair enough. I encourage my students to listen to songs to improve their English. I learnt a lot of my German from listening to various dodgy goth/heavy metal bands.

Just don't ask for a straw when buying a can of Coke as no doubt the answer on receving the said article will be "The shortest straw has been pulled for you". :-)

This great big fat Goth bloke sometimes passes me in the time - and has a Pikachu keyring attached to his bag.

Is his name Maz, by any chance?

*fond memories of great big Goth blokes with Pikachu backpacks*

No, I think he's called Terry, somewhat improbably.

So is this phenomenon not so unusual then? Clearly I've been missing something here, if so!

At the end of the road where I live.

You mean you haven't stalked me enough to know where that is?

Gosh, I think I might be on heat. A cold shower is in order I think.

Brandon goes to a very posh school and the mothers (apart from me) normally present themselves quite tastefully. However, one mother (who is a teacher, married to a lawyer and they all go to Church every Sunday) blows my mind, by standing outside the school gate in a leopard-print raincoat and black "fuck me" stilettos, smoking a cigarette. She is also Scottish and has a scar on her cheek.
