Labour has narrowed the Conservative Party's poll lead to just one point as the "Brown bounce" continues, according to a ComRes survey for The Independent.

Tories 37 (-2)
Labour 36 (+5)
Lib Dem 17 (+1)
Other (10) (-4)

The figures would give Gordon Brown an overall majority of 10 if repeated at a general election.
The distribution of Tory votes usually means that they need a several (3-6) point lead over Labour to command a majority. Labour win a number of seats with quite low turnout. There are also various seats where the Tories basically own the entire seat, but getting a high turnout and 60% of the vote there doesn't make them win it more.
I really don't know what to think.
The Unsinkable Zombie Brown is making an effort. I disagree with the efforts being made in a number of instances, but he's making an effort. The Tories, on the other hand, have been enthusing over the virtues of the recession, and have repeatedly been adopting hands off approaches to trying to avoid people losing homes and jobs. If they get rid of George Osborne, as the
men in grey suits are reputed to be asking for, I might fear them slightly less. (That particular article is about asking for David Davis to be (shadow) Chancellor.)
But ye gads. A choice between TUZB and CallMeDave? The UK upsets me sometimes.
