This was my Merriam-Webster word of the day today...it all makes sense now!
adamantine \ad-uh-MAN-teen\ adjective
1 : made of or having the quality of adamant
*2 : rigidly firm : unyielding
3 : resembling the diamond in hardness or luster
Example sentence:
Jay was adamantine in his refusal to help with the party, insisting he had
to be somewhere else that night
Did you know?
The Greek and Latin word for the hardest imaginable substance, whether
applied to a legendary stone or an actual substance, such as diamond, was
"adamas." Latin poets used the term figuratively for things lasting, firm, or
unbending, and the adjective "adamantinus" was used in similar contexts. The
English noun "adamant" (meaning "an unbreakable or extremely hard substance"),
as well as the adjective "adamant" (meaning "inflexible" or "unyielding"), came
from "adamas." "Adamantine," which has such figurative uses as "rigid," "firm,"
and "unyielding," came from "adamantinus." "Adamas" is actually the source of
"diamond" as well. "Diamas," the Latin term for diamond, was an alteration of
"adamas."
Oh, also...2006 was an interesting year. I stole this from Cindy's Myspace, but I never post on Myspace so I'll do it here.

3) NEWCOMER AWARD - NEWEST FRIEND?
Steve! Though technically I've known him LONGER than I've known most of my other friends, we re-met this year...and now he's a new friend that I've known for a long time.
3) HIGH POINT OF THE YEAR?
My graduation! That was my last good day before the funk started.
4) LOW POINT OF THE YEAR?
The entire month of July...up until probably the end of September...unemployment and depression will do that to you.
5) BEST HOLIDAY?
None of them have really been particularly special. Maybe New Year's...that was fun...that was so long ago though.

Better Son/Daughter - Rilo Kiley
Belting that song out at the top of my lungs helped me weather a lot of crap this year.
7) ANY REGRETS?
I don't regret things
8) BEST NIGHT OUT?
I think my favorite nights out are my nights in...sitting around Bryan and Em's apartment playing Wii and talking about comic books. Taco day with Phil, Em and Bryan was amazing. Tinapalooza deserves a mention because it was the night that finally knocked me out of the funk I'd been in for half the year. My favorite nights OUT though might actually be The Plans...which eventually just turn into nights IN sitting around John's basement watching Xmen cartoons.

St. Patrick's Day

19) MOST LOYAL FRIEND?
The whole gang at Arcadia. Special mention has to go to Bryan for all those nights he got me piss drunk and then made me cry. I'm grateful for those.
20) BIGGEST CHANGE OF THE YEAR?
The whole year was a huge change. Graduating and then joining the work force was probably the biggest change in my life...but that in a lot of ways has nothing to do with how I've changed as a person. January 1st 2006 seems like ages ago.
