There's a couple of things I did not remember from when I first read the story... Not sure if you added them later, or if they just slipped my attention: "I do not know," he said sharply. "But all I can think to do is to remain... on the threshold, I suppose. and As her brother did, when he went about his work in the Bag End gardens. --------------- He must be well where he is now - oh, he must be, when he so longed - Ohhhh? :'( "It is too full," she whispered, "too alive." Cool... He *has* permission to cross over the threshold to seek a love, 'it only takes a leap of faith'... ;) All these wise and mighty folk that didn’t think to help when Mr. Frodo were ill and confused. :DDDDDD (always loved that line)
All other things I don't mention, I am liking too deeply. :) But now there's a painful stab from Sam's song, because my friend Luthien's finches died recently...
Hey, I'm amazed by the precision of your memory! :) You're right that I changed both lines, though the latter is an old change I made after first posting the story to my LJ, while the former is a recent one.
And thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the link or the html file: when I open the page, it only shows the Tolkien quotes at the top and a single line of text below, but after that it breaks off. Do you know if it has been posted anywhere else?

Would like to rec this story if you haven't read it... The Gift of Ilúvatar by Elenya: http://elenya54.livejournal.com/19337.html
And will also send you Tolkien's reading the "Nai hiruvalyë Valimar" poem.
