Here are the answers for the last four days and tomorrow of the book Meme.
My phone interview with Teach for America is scheduled for 15 minutes from now.... SUPER nervous....... I'll probably post again when I'm done.
Day 26 - A book that changed your opinion about something
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. I thought I was going to hate it, was made to read it for a class, and fell in love. Before JLC I was not interested in modern fiction or fiction that had to do with realistic realities and true stories of peoples less than a hundred years old. Amy Tan changed that.
Day 27 - The most surprising plot twist or ending
In Christopher Paolini’s Eragon Series, I read Eldest on the day it was released, grabbing the last copy (the window display) out of a tiny little bookshop on Orcas Island, and preceded to read it in one sitting. His best-friend turned worst-enemy is his BROTHER!? And his father is the EVIL OVERLORD KING??!?!?!? No, I saw neither of those coming.
Day 28 - Favorite title
I quite like the alliterative titles of Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events. For one thing, it introduced kids to words like ersatz, austere, and penultimate. For another, Brett Helquist is bril.
Day 29 - A book everyone hated but you liked
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Apparently, I was the only person in class who actually READ it, and everyone else just sparknotes’d their way through. What can you do with a British lit nerd with a serious lady boner for the French Revolution? :P
Day 30 - Your favorite book of all time
There is no answer to this question. Over the last 30 days, you’ve gotten a brief glimpse of my world of books, but there were SO many left out. What about the academic books I love and refer to in my free time? (free time, I’ve heard of that…) What about the other YA novels that I’ve read but couldn’t possibly recall off the top of my head? What about all those books I’ve borrowed from others to read and therefore can’t refer to? What of the books that are not novels and influence me heavily? (Bill Bryson, anyone?)
Let me put it this way: I am a Bibliophile. J’adore les livres! If you put a book in front of me, chances are I’m going to read it, whether I’m interested initially or not. I love the feel, scent, sight, of books. I love to feel the differences in the leaves from book to book; thickness, abrasiveness, smoothness, texture, length, width, color. I love the smell of new ink on fresh-printed books and the must of books laden with age. The view of a bookshelf full of read and loved books sends me to a happy place which cannot be compared to ice cream, new shoes, crack, orgasm, or a hot bath with a glass of wine and a massage.
I love books. All of them.
