First day of Winter Quarter, 2011

So yesterday was my first day of Winter Term. I will say that several things sort of threw me for a loop yesterday...

Firstly, I got a look at my syllabus. Utterly ridiculous! Honestly, if I'm expected to actually read upwards of 1500 pages a week, do you really expect me to be able to write weekly 5-7 page critical responses AND be working on my own senior thesis? I have an annotated bib. due next week, minimum of 30 sources, 2/3 of which have to be primary. *sigh* I could have picked an easier topic for primary sources. And two weeks from now they want a 20 page prospectus. Maybe I'm naive, but isn't 20 pages for a prospectus a bit long for a 45 page article? Maybe just me...

And secondly, I was sorted into a Seminar. This is how it works every term, but I've had the very same professor for two years straight in Seminar, and they deliberately sorted me into a different professor's Seminar for that reason. I thought for sure there must have been some mistake... but far from it. It had been a conscious decision between the two profs. Granted, having more than one opinion on your work is necessary, and I could handle my new prof's Seminar, but.... It gave me quite a shock. Mostly I'm upset that my previous prof won't be able to see my culminating work. She's been with me for my entire Evergreen career, and I would have liked her to be there with me when I finished. ...C'est la vie, je crois.

Work today, and I found myself surprisingly well focused and on task for hours and hours longer than I usually am, Gemini sister that I am. *shrug* Got to finish at least several pages on the new website I'm creating.... Creating code is new to me, and I'm pretty dang slow.

Have to go finish at least another 400 pages and write my response before I can let myself relax. Then I think, it's hot bath time...
