Today just got better and better.  This is who visited me today:

Classes started out well, discussing our readings and deeper meanings within a historical context and in respect of the collective memories of the time and people, and what contributions to such. I then went to seminar, where further discussions occurred and went over well, thoughts and decently mapped out concepts were explored in a manner that was both insightful and manageable.  Et puis, nous avons une salon de Proust et "La Recherche de les Temps Perdu." That was a great load of fun and I had so much fun practicing my French again after a whole summer without it.

Then, I went grocery shopping before going home, thinking I deserve to have something other than frozen entrees and soup. So I picked up my favorite food: Pasta. This paired with classes was enough to make a decently good day. But when I arrived home I went and picked up the mail, and got the book that I've wanted since I discovered it's existence this summer.  It's called "Memory: Luba Art and the Making of Memory," which, in context to my program this year, which is about History and Memory, is REALLY EXCITING! So now I'm at the point where the day is definitely on the good side of things.

So I go up to the office to make sure that my roommate has put in a work order for our washing machine, which hasn't been working in the last two weeks, since it won't drain water, and stops the cycle half way through. It was fixed once, but has since broke again, hence my check to make sure the work order was put in. When I inquire about the work order, I'm informed that they're actually going to give us a NEW washing machine, since they can't fix the problem, and it should be here by tomorrow or the next day.

NOW it's a really good day.

BUT THEN, I check my e-mail, since I haven't looked at them since this morning before I left for classes. So help me, I nearly squee'd myself out of my chair, to see the e-mail from the United Way, telling me I got the job as their new Marketing Director! HOLY CRAP ON A STICK THAT'S EXCITING! For one thing, it means I'm working with UWAY, a dream of mine since I started working with non-profits last year at Mason County Literacy. For another thing, it's a substantial raise in pay, at about $13.50/hr, and thirdly, it gives me a load of responsibilities that I'm just chuffed to bits over. Not only that, but it means I'll have access to and connections to other non-profits and strong connections to education systems and companies, which I can use for my later plans of Teach for America while employing Rethinking Schools methods of social justice within curriculum.  And I can't say it'd look bad on my resume. :)

So long story short, good end of class, got the book I wanted really badly, getting a new washing machine in the apartment, and got the job I've wanted for a long time! It's DANCING TIEM!

It's time for some celebratory pasta and good times.
