Humanities Loss

So this past Saturday (08/25/12) WE lost a member of our family. I say WE because he while not a relative of mine or yours, was a member of everyones family. Niel Armstrong passed away, his death is a great loss to humanity. He was the first member of our little and still insignificant species to leave this world and step foot on another celestial body not our own. He was our first representative to walk across the face of a foriegn body. I never met the man, but I admire him, not only because of his deeds for humanity, but for how he lived after his deed. Prof. Armstrong left NASA almost a year after returning from the moon and lived a very quiet life. He refused thousands if not tens of thousands of interview and speaking requests because he did not want people to make money off of his fame. He refused requests to run for political office prefering to teach. When approched by conspiracy theorist about the moon he politely dismissed them. He only wanted the quiet life out of the spot light, and why not the footage of him stepping from the ladder of the eagle lander and the words he spoke have echoed and will continue to echo down from the moon and through time for as long as WE the people he represented remain in this universe. While he was an American he did not represent only America...He represented all of humanity. We need someone to do that again else we stagnate, fester and then die here on our little blue speck in this wide and unimaginable beautiful universe.
