Yeah, so I should totally go to bed, but I don't want to.
I wish I weren't such a total dilettante. (I also wish I could spell dilettante without looking it up...)
1. I wish I could make music, instead of just listening to it/playing it/enjoying it. After going to the Seattle Noise Festival last Friday, Nick Astete and I promised eachother we would start looking into making music, probably electronically, because neither of us is really good at any instrument. I used to play the bass in middle school and at the battle of the bands in highschool (which kicked ASS--getting kicked out of the contest is the total punk fockin rock thing to do anyways...), but, like I said. Dilettante. I like making weirdass noises on my dad's guitar when I'm at his place, so maybe I will get a cheap amp and guitar next year to fuck with, too. And Nick and I want to get a minidisc recorder so we can do field recordings.
#1 is the main thing I am thinking about at the moment, but I'll elaborate.
2. Writing. Total dilettante. Worse than dilettante. Says he wanys to be a writer, but never writes. Practice makes perfect/at least better, but fuck me if I'll exert myself.
3. Art. Not so much a dilettante here. Content to admire, but wishes he could produce. He can't. (Excepting doodles and desktop backgrounds, both of which are simply idle amusements.)
4. Photography. Sortof dilettante. Takes pictures sometimes, but with no real ambition. Takes them for himself only.
5. What the fuck is up with this third person bullshit? Fuck him!
6. Too much coarse language makes one sound fucking stupid.
7. I'm hesitant to buy climbing shoes, even though Colin and Justin are getting into it, and even though I have been accompanying them to the wall, because it'll just become another dilettantish pursuit that I drop.
8. Is there anything that I do that's not really dilettantish? Preliminary findings: negative.
9. THEY: "What are you majoring in?" I: "I don't know. English. Maybe history. I haven't taken any proper English classes though. And only one history class."
10. I'm not even good at pretending, because I'm always too aware that it's a sham!
11. "That's probably because you're a snob." Response to my criticism of Radiohead's Hail to the Thief. The guy was drunk though, so I forgive him.
12. Last weekend was awesome. See #11.

13. Mirah's voice is spectacular.
14. I like numbered lists. Always start using them automatically as soon as I get into journal mode.
15. I think that's just about all I've got to say for myself at the moment.
