Well, my break's nearly over, as well as the year. So maybe I should write down what I've been up to.

Break has been pretty slow. I've gotten some reading done, which has been nice: If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino, and The Practice of the Wild by Gary Snyder. Both very cool.

If on a winter's night a traveler is fiction, addressed uniquely in the second person, about a Reader who finds that every book he begins is somehow cut off at the moment of greatest suspense--it's really ten novels in one, as well as a narrative of the Reader's own quest. Really cool.

The Practice of the Wild is a collection of essays about spirituality, ecology, economy, nature, wilderness, and life. Very thought-provoking and inspiring. Not very concrete about how a more ecologically sound society would be organized, but full of very good ideas about how to live a better life as an individual.

Walked up Beacon Rock, which I try to do every time I'm out at my dad's. Watched an amazing sunset and did a little bit of writing. That's my New Year's Resolution, to write more often, if not every day.

Heading back to Seattle on Friday. I'll be glad to get back. I hope my mail (a poster and a DVD, hopefully) didn't get all soaked and screwed up in our crappy mailbox.
