in New York for Xmas
Originally, our family was planning to gather at my sister's place in New Hampshire for the holidays. I had given my sister one of the famous ampersandy trees, which my sister have set up and decorated in preparation for a visit by my father's cat, Lucia. My sister had also spruced up her place and arranged a dinner party for this evening (24 December 2009).
Unfortunately, my father has developed a disturbing lump on one of his tonsils. He has seen several specialists and will be having a biopsy next week.
Although my sister has gone ahead with her party, I am visiting my father and Lucia for the holidays. Lucia has been bouncing about playing new cat toys, though I am sad to report that she will have to do without an Xmas tree this year (I was surprised to see that today there were no Xmas trees available for sale in my father's neighborhood -- a few weeks ago, it seemed that I could not turn a street corner without running into an Xmas tree vendor).
