[Juliet is working on some sort of sewing project, sitting by the window in the main room of the Capulet house. She concentrates fully on the purple fabric, not looking up to speak.]It has been six months since I arrived to this city. Six months to the day. During such time, I have gained and lost family, made very dear friends, and found myself ( Read more... )

[Sokka feels sorrow and guilt all at once. He swallows it down and offers the thinnest of smiles.] It looks just like Octi. She would have been pleased, I think.

[She smiles in return.]

I am glad you think so, Sokka. I had hoped it would, but I fear I am too biased to tell properly.

Hard not to be. [Ahahaha, gosh, does he feel awkward. He rubs at the back of his neck, unable to keep his eyes on the screen.] Juliet, about the house... I didn't-- I wasn't targeting anyone, okay? It was just... [He's guessing she's put two-and-two together by now. Of course, he's very very wrong.]

Indeed. That is why I wished opinions.

[Her brow furrows at this.]

Sokka, why are you -

[Wait.]

You set our house on fire?

[He's been working to fix the damage, spending his nights in jail, hoping it would help ease some of the guilt he feels. Unfortunately, it doesn't help him feel any less sick at this moment.]

[Returning his attention to the screen, he pinches his lips a second and then nods. He had to take responsibility for his actions.] It was me, yeah. I'm really sorry. I-I want to make it up to you, if you'll let me.

[She takes a moment to let his words sink in. It had been the fault of the Animus that such things happened, she knows, but for someone she trusts to have been cursed into hurting her.... No. That doesn't matter. What matters is he did not wish to do it, clearly. She cannot hold it against him.]

Your apology is accepted, and gladly so. There was no lasting harm done, and that is what is most important, is it not?

I think proper penance is important, too. I can make you some boots and fix anything that was damaged. Or, if you'd prefer me to help some other way, I'll do that instead. [He's eager to do something.]

Cobbler is one of your talents, Sokka? Truly? If that is the case, we shall work out an arrangement for boots. If you insist upon proper penance, then rightly, that would be to repair what was damaged, which is thankfully little. You chose the side of the house on which our hearth sits, and much of the wall there is stone.

I'd like to fix what I damaged and I'm happy to offer my skills outside of that, though a cobbler I'm not. We make a lot of cold-weather clothing where I come from, so I've got some experience. More importantly, though, I've been snaring rabbits for months now, so I've already got some fur we can use.

Then you can help me to make warmer clothing, if you do not mind. While it gets cold in Verona, I have not had to make heavy winter clothing before. That was always left to the other ladies in the household. And I have not experience in working with fur at all. Tybalt and I would be most grateful.

Trust me, when we're through, you're not even going to know it's winter. [And he meant that, too! His coat was the warmest thing he owned and it did him loads of good.] When are you available? I'll have to measure your feet to make sure I've got enough leather. N-not that you have big feet or anything... [Ahahahaha, foot-in-mouth.]

[She can't help but laugh at that. Even when bundled up as much as she could be at home, there was always a little bit of a chill.]

So long as I am able to move freely in my winter garments, Sokka.

[And she has to stifle a giggle at his back-tracking.]

Any time is fine, so far as I am concerned. I shall have to ask Tybalt about a fitting for his boots, though. And I am well-accustomed to a cobbler's ways, and the realities of Adstringendum.

[He laughs, too, just because it's nice to know he's going to have a chance to mend things, both physically and emotionally.] In that case, I'll start getting everything together and when I hear Tybalt's available, I'll come measure you both at the same time.

Are there any particular colors you're looking for? I've got some indigo dye, but I know not everyone's as thrilled with blue as us Water Tribe folk. I'm happy to come up with something else for you.

[Smile.]

I would adore blue, myself - it reminds me of Romeo. But I do not think Tybalt will be pleased with the color for some reason.

[And the smile becomes a smirk at that thought.]

I can dye it brown for him. Or black, though it might run in the rain for a while until the excess dye washes out.

Either color would suit him well.

Is there a way to dye things red in this place?
