[Juliet has a tattered basket at her side, and she sits at the edge of the river, leaning over the bank. There is fabric in her hands, which she dunks up and down in the water repeatedly, then scrubs against itself. It's laundry day in the Capulet household, and she's doing the best she can without much soap.]Only three more to go. When I get

Juliet! You should be more careful!
[You could have drowned! Or got eaten by an alligator! Or... Something!]

I am fine, Tybalt. Soaked to the bone, but unharmed. I will be home shortly, if you could perhaps find me something to use to dry off before I change.

[Hope you're prepared to be totally smothered in towels and blankets, dear cos]

Wet cloth is always heavier than dry cloth, and I fear trying to make my way home in this condition whilst carrying such a burden. If you would be so kind, cos, as to come and escort me?
[Because she knows the best way to keep him from fretting too much is to give him things to do and let him indulge in some of his worry.]

[And the feed clicks off as he comes to find you. And snatch that basket out of your hands before saying anything.]
You are not hurt?

I am not hurt, save for my pride. I chose a poor location in which to sit and wash today.

Well, find a better location next time. You could have been badly hurt.

Worry not, cos. A kind gentleman called Riku has offered to help with the wash the next time, either by doing it for me, or by carrying water back to the house, so that I may work in the comfort and relative safety of the yard. I trust that location will meet with your approval?

Is it wise to trust someone you've only spoken with once?

I do not think it unwise. He seems kind enough, and the Animus are not playing tricks this week, so it is likely his true nature. We must learn to rely on others in this place as well as ourselves. We will not thrive here if we do not accept the help of others.

The Animus are not required for a man to pretend to be nice and helpful in order to get close to an attractive young woman.

You are too suspicious, cos. Not every man is as - as deceptive as Mercutio is rumored to be.
Reply
I doubt many are as deceptive, but one does not have to be that bad to be a danger to your virtue.

[She glances up at him.]
Perhaps if you spent time with some of the men with whom I have been friendly, you would see that they are quite safe as companions. I am as safe with them as I am with you.

I think you trust too easily. This place is far too strange and dangerous to take anyone at face value.
Reply
So I trust too easily and you too little. We are quite at odds, cos.
[And she smirks up at him.]
Anyone? Including you?
