PERSONALITY: While growing up he was a fairly calm and warmhearted person, he grew to a cold and hard, even distant, teenager. He purposely acted like a jerk in order to keep people away. Though it ended up attracting more people to him than actually pushing them away. He now is a bit more warm hearted now, but is still rudely blunt honest and isn't afraid to say what is on his mind. And of course, he is still a smartass.
He seems to have more sympathy for the people around him, but he still doesn't care much about major events around him unless they directly concern him. He still prefers to be a loner without much contacts, but is known to engage in one off affairs if given the opportunity (not that he seeks them out).
Touta's outlook on life has at least somewhat improved. He'd rather live a small eager life to spite a dead friend than try to find ways for situations that would cause his death. Though he is still very bitter about Minato's death, and still feels very guilty over the death of his girlfriend Maaya.
BACKGROUND:
pre-iwatodai;
Kappugawa Touta was born July 10th in Kyoto, Japan. His family was average middle-class, with nothing fancy to their name. Though by middle-school he had a childhood sweetheart named Maaya, one year younger than him. It was a rather odd match as her family was higher middle-classed. On her 16th birthday they had gone out to the Sea of Japan on a rented a small yot when a storm struck and caused the small yot to start breaking apart. Touta attempted to save Maaya but was unable to pull her from the waves. Maaya died out in sea and Touta was so traumatized by it all that he developed a horrible phobia of large bodies of water (aquaphobia).
Later that year, Touta would run away from home just shy of his seventeenth birthday. Unable to deal with the memories of the event, he thought it better to run away from it all. He cut contact with his family and few friends he still had.
iwatodai (2009-2010);
Touta hitchhiked and ended up in Iwatodai. He enrolled in Gekkoukan High School, and was moved into the school's dorms. Within a short amount of time he ended up involved in the group called S.E.E.S., who fought against creatures named "Shadows" using "Personas." Despite being given the evoker and being a member of S.E.E.S.s, Touta rarely summoned his Persona and rather used the weapon he was given. His Persona reflected his issues with Maaya's death and water, and he was unable to continue facing them.
After being attacked by a man named Nero, Touta was left slightly-handicapped. His hand left hand had been damaged by a horizontal stab wound, being unable to write with or do much of anything beyond finger movements. Though the outcome of it made him grow closer to few of the members of S.E.E.S.: Shinjiro, Minato, Kiyo, Isao, Zai, Paru, and others.
Eventually the cause of the Dark Hour was revealed to be an entity called Nyx. The group gathered together to fight Nyx and it's forces on several levels. Touta was slightly injured by the whole affair but disconnected himself from S.E.E.S. in a similar fashion that he had with his parents and home. Minato died to seal Nyx away from the world. It reached the point where, like home, Touta couldn't handle the fact that someone else near him died and he ended up leaving Iwatodai without a word.

Touta settled down in Tokyo and managed, somehow, to finish High School and graduated. Without much aspirations to do in life, he settled on a part time job in a music store. Despite his attitude towards people in general, he ended up moving to be a supervisor and was at least content. He also ended up in a few short relationships here and there, never lasting more than a month or so due to his attitude. For a while he aspired to learn a musical instrument, a way for him to remember what happened in Iwatodai, but due to his hand it proved rather futile.
He grew tired of the busy Tokyo life, never being able to just stop and relax, and moved to the country. Of course someone thought it was funny that he went to Yasoinaba, where several ex-S.E.E.S. members have gone.

WEAKNESSES: Combat: Easily hit (he can be sent flying), not much armor thus prone to more damage from attacks (this includes both physical/elemental), unable to do high amounts of damage. Outside Combat: Conversations relating to his past or his future never end well. Unable to trust easily or become close to people. He is too dependant on doing things on his own and refuses teamwork. Touta also mentally does not operate well around large bodies of water. Fairly easily non-conned into many things.
STRENGTHS: Combat: Touta is agile, merely capable of fast light attacks. He is the first one in and the first one out. He is well versed in strategy and tactics and can carry his part to the fullest if circumstances allow. He is loyal to those that earn his trust and fiercely protective of those same mentioned ones. Able to do solo missions/investigations without help. Despite his easily being non-conned he has a wonderful poker face.

PERSONALITY: Fairly cold hearted and distant at first, Touta never bothers to attempt to get close to people (this however doesn't stop people from becoming close anyhow). He comes off as someone who has no opinions on current events or even on day-to-day basis of people's lives. He doesn't go out of his way to make his point known or heard; in fact he would rather stand in the back and wait for orders. However for those few he does become attached to and care about, he doesn't change much beyond the fact he is willing to share his past and his future ambitions... and of course how he feels and thinks about the things of the moment. Touta does enjoy several things - mainly reading Greek Tragedies, the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and Shakespeare's famous plays (he's rather obsessed with tragedy). He also trains much of he day after school and on his own free time (and addition to any clubs he maybe no conned into). He can be fairly grim about most things in life - but does have the capability to smile somewhere in him. Extremely pessimistic - also believes in "inevitability."

His life continued on but he decided that for everyone's safety and his own, he should keep people as far away from him as he could. As such he had no real opinion of anything that was considered relevant in the world - even the Apathy Syndrome. In his first year of high school Touta packed his bags and traveled around Japan for no other purpose other than he could. He came upon Iwatodai where he experienced his first encounter with the Dark Hour. He managed to avoid several attacks from Shadows and survived the Dark Hour. Touta sent word to his parents that he would be transferring to Gekkoukan High School and decided to do what he could to investigate the Dark Hour. This of course leaves his Persona currently unsummoned however he has the potential.
